I bought some of the Fluval Bug Bites just out of curiosity and both of my bettas just love them. The ones for small tropical fish are tiny but the bettas love to hunt them down and attack them.

Is there any harm done if you don't squash the pea up before adding it to the aquarium.

I've heard feeding peas can help with constipation, I'm sure my female's got it (she's been hiding away for the past 3 days which isn't like her at all. I've not fed them for 24hrs and now I'm hoping the pea helps flush out the digestive system. Any feed back on this team ¿

I feed mine daphnia! have a separate 5 gallon tank on the windowsill (facing west) and it hasn't crashed yet. It's been 1 month so far and they aren't as delicate as people make it out to be. They can handle a wide range of PH, ammonia, nitrite and nitrates so they can handle a dose of some miracle gro soluble fertilizer. They also don't need a heater (fluctuates between 68-85 daily). I haven't been feeding them but they seem to be doing all right. I might set up a separate jar just to culture green water for when the population eventually does die down.

Thanks, Cory. Good info. I have multiple bettas and do find that rotating out several foods really helps. I like to add daphnia to the mix to make sure they get enough "fiber" in their diet. I also live in S.E. Texas, so I get to grow my own mosquito larvae. They LOVE them. Definitely a natural food and they love hunting them.

I love my Betta community tank, I just got to upgrade to a 38 from a 10!!! It has 6 female bettas, 4 blind cave tetras (they're almost as cool as the bettas), 5" bristlenose, and a 4.5" yoyo loach. My only problem is I'm not sure who's eating all of my plants! (Pretty sure it's the tetras). Also in a lot of fish videos I see these floating plants with awesome roots, what are thos?! I would love some!

I like tiger barbs but I don't know what fish I can put with them with my newest aquarium. What fish get along with barbs? How big can they grow? are they highly aggressive to other fish than tetra's? and how long do I quarantine a fish for? I am new to this hobby and still have a ton to learn. Especially on filters, Petco told me no more than 5 in a tank but I find it to little for my 10 gallon and I want to be able to put more for my 16 gallon tank. What filters are best for a 16-20 gallon without over doing it. please help me.

Was seeking some advice if you can please help! I have a tank measuring 72x18x24inches. Circumstances has required me to get a somewhat smaller tank. None of my fish grow any larger than about 6 inches, headstanders, red rainbows, stuff like that. I have heard it said if you take fish out of a large tank then put them in a smaller tank, they simply don't do as well. For me I was thinking of going for a 60x16x22inches but I'm more or less not sure which to emphasize on, depth or length? Overall it's what is best for the fish is most important. Thank you!

I have a dangerous allergy to blood worms, anaphylaxis actually, similar to peanut allergies some people experience. This is not uncommon to people who have lots of exposure to blood worms. So a word of caution, wash your hands after handling them. My poor bettas will never get to have them, they do enjoy frozen or freeze dried daphnia though.

When I was trying to figure out what my latest betta would eat he started going after the food I was feeding the smaller fish in the tank. Bug bites for Small fish. He doesn't mind eating alongside the neons and the rasboras because they don't compete with him for food.

I feed mine bug bites and frozen mysis shrimp. I also have a few different pellets hakari and Aqueon . I tried frozen blood worms, aside from grossing me out, Bettas would only eat while they were floating through the water. Once they hit bottom they never touched again, lfs recommended trying the frozen mysis shrimp, not only the best nutrition in frozen food they hunt down every last one!

My Betta is such a picky eater. He refuses to eat anything frozen, except for the occasional brine shrimp. He used to eat Omega One tropical flakes, but, again, now he refuses to (even with new can). We did find that he likes Fluval's bug bites, and he'll nibble on the Repashy we feed the others. He's also very lazy. If you don't put the pellet right in front of his face, he won't eat it because he won't chase it down.

Any advise on koi food
Everything I find is so hit and miss on info or price
I have no clue why one 10pound bag is 35 and another is 75
Help
Heck if you sell one you like I'll just buy that
Aquarium Co-Op
Aquarium Co-Op - 6 years ago
The price usually dictates the quality. What makes up quality is mostly how much filler is in the foods. The theory that you can feed less food to get the same nutrients to the fish resulting in much less waste. I find hikari gold koi food to be a nice middle of the road food mixed with the silk worm food

Very cool trick placing live Black Worms in the substrate. I'm worming seven Amazon Puffers. They're 1/2" to 1" right now. Discovered they will pick up some BW from the white sand, BUT they eat 10s the amt if I drop them on the thin layer of gravels. They hunt them all day, until next 12 hr feeding. Who knew.... Thanks for another great short vid. Plants are looking awesome. Are those long Vals, the single strands?

If you are like me and have a zillion live bearers who are very healthy. I would put fry at the top of the list of best betta foods. It controls your fish population which helps your aquariums out. Nothing goes to waste and the Betta's get to use their hunting instincts. I end up with 300 fry a month so I have an unlimited supply of Betta and other predator food. Creates a nice circle. I don't cull, I use the less desirables. I can sell them as Mosquitofish to ranchers and I also have live food.
For those who consider this cruel, trust me so many fry are eaten that people don't know about in community aquariums with live bearers - this is already happening.

I have a lot of luck with the Hikari betta food and tropical Bug Bites by Fluval. Thawed frozen blood worms are an excellent pick-me-up for lethargic rescue bettas, as it encourages picky eaters to finally eat! I like trying new things to so I'll have to try some of these on our bettas. Thank you Cory!

Can the live worms crawl up the glass and out of the tank if the betta doesn't eat them right away?

Semi-related follow-up: Will bettas harass/kill any inverts (mystery snails, amano shrimp, etc.) that are too large for them to gobble up?

If you're having trouble getting your Betta to eat pellets I'd recommend trying to get the smallest pellet food you can get. My Betta refused to eat the New Life Spectrum Betta pellets because they were too big but I then tried Dennerle Betta Booster and he loves em'! He gets super hyped whenever I open the packet in front of him whereas when I had the NLS pellets he'd ignore me.

I do frozen mysis and frozen daphnia along with frozen bloodworms. All of my bettas like the small bites bug bites -- that's the only "community" food that all of them like.
