You could put as many Nerite snails as you want in a freshwater aquarium they will lay eggs but won't hatch cause they need brackish water to hatch ☺

Thanks.
Also bettas should be kept in a tank that is 2.5 gallons or more. 2.5g is the bare minimum that is considered acceptable. Most serious fish keepers keep them in 5 gallons or more.
I personally wouldn’t follow the instructions of a PetCo employee. They rarely give good advice. Sometimes you will find one or two that do know what they are talking about, but this is few and far between.
Also the cycle is in the filter media not the water, a good quick start is bacteria in a bottle, fluval is a good one to use or if you have a fully cycled filter add the media to that for a week to jumpstart the cycle process
Sorry if it sounds blunt, my channel is Fish Keeping. If you would like to connect, I'm happy to help if you have any questions, troubles or problems. Thank you !!!
The goal with a cycled tank is to grow enough beneficial bacteria inside your filter, so that it detoxifies your tank. Without the bacteria, your tank water becomes poisonous to your fish. You have to follow certain steps to ensure that the beneficial bacteria grow. So it is a bit of a process. Also be sure that you are using a good water dechlorinator. I recommend using Seachem Prime. It is top notch.
I would also seek out a fish forum. Fishlore has a beginners message board that can help you with getting your tank cycled and help you to be successful at keeping fish. Good luck!
I’m not replying again. Honestly this is fucking ridiculous.
The lot of you need to go do some research.
It’s why 100% changes are typically not recommended.
Most of you bacteria is in the filter, but it will also live in substrate
So there is a difference between bacteria living in the water column and bacteria being present in the water column. Beneficial bacteria will slough off of surfaces when disturbed. During water changes or tank maintenance. This means that when using old tank water in a new set up, you will get some beneficial bacteria present in the water column. It will then settle into the surfaces of the new tank. Where it will begin to grow and reproduce. Is it enough to fully transfer your cycle to a new tank, No. Will it help get things going on the right track. Yes.
If you weren’t acting like a spoiled child, you wouldn’t need to be reprimanded by actual adults.
And it’s YOU’RE NOT YOUR. Learn to spell.
I don’t need to google this information, because I have cycled many many tanks. So practical experience trumps internet searches.
There are benefits to using old tank water. The water is stable with minerals and chemistries. So it can eliminate pH swings or gH/kH swings also. As long as the water isn’t packed with nitrates, it is fine to use. It just isn’t super effective for cycling.
Also don’t pour bottled water into your filter. Be sure to always use dechlorinated or old tank water to Prime the pump. Using water that hasn’t been dechlorinated is the quickest way to kill your cycle.
Also, leaving the tank without an ammonia source, will also kill off all beneficial bacteria. They will starve to death in 24 hours or so. So by leaving the tank empty for 2-3 days, defeated all of the cycled water or cycled media you added.
At the end of the day, she may not have cycled her tank and you could've been nicer to her - just admit it.

There are methods for an instant cycle, but you need a well established aquarium to pull media from.
There is not much good bacteria in water from an established tank but as you already bought the fish its better than nothing! I would have suggested to get some bio balls or some kind of media and put it in Klauss tank for a month or so and then put it into the new tank as that would mean that the new tank is already cycled and ready to go as the bacteria is in the filter ☺️ gorgeous fish though!
Thanks! I have my Betta in a 5 gallon and I didn’t give it time to really filter, very helpful!
Ammonia + Nitrites = less than 1ppm. Add full tank dose of Prime & bottled starter bacteria. Recheck parameters in 24 hours.
Ammonia + Nitrites = 1ppm or greater, do a 50% water change, add full tank dose of Prime and bottled bacteria. Recheck parameters in 24 hours.
Continue this process until your readings are 0 ammonia, 0 Nitrites, and 5+ nitrates. It usually takes 12-14 days when using bottled starter bacteria. Seachem Stability and API QuickStart are both great bottled bacteria you can use.
