Here is a less-than-perfect video to pass the time between last week and next week. Last week's video I taught you how to sex a veiltail betta. That video was very fun to make, however also took a tremendous amount of time and effort, and therefore I require a week to recover. To my new subscribers: I'm sorry this is the first video I present to you as a new subscriber. Next week's video will be more informative and the week after that- a surprise that hopefully you will love to see :) Please excuse the quality of this video. This is rare- I love bettas, editing and sharing with you is icing on the cake, but sometimes I need a break- but I didn't want you to be forced to have one too. So since I had changed my tanks up this week for fun, I decided to put this easy video together for you to see what I had changed. i absolutely ADORE your channel and even though i dont know you i can see your personality and how much you really enjoy fish keeping through the videos you post. I just rescued a betta from Wal-Mart yesterday, and he looked the worst out of all the fish there. He was laying down at the bottom of the cup and wasnt moving around at all. So i decided to take him in. I bought a little clear shoebox to put him in TEMPORARILY. I only did this because i have another female betta at home. (and i dont want ANY BABIES. NO BABIES, as i am still a beginner at this hobby) anyways i only put him in a shoebox because i have a female at home, and i dont have a divider!! OK IM SO SORRY YOU HAD TO READ ALL THIS I JUST WANTED YOU TO HAVE A LIL BACK STORY! Ok, ill just ask my question so you can get on with your day: So he, (the betta fish) will not eat any food i give him. i have been watching him very closly today, and when i put the food in the water, right over his head, he swims up to it, looks at it for a second, and just swims back down to the bottom of his TEMPORARY shoebox tank. He just lays there and struggles to swim up to the surface to breath. I have sorta... cupped him in my hands (but still with the fish in the water obviously) and just let him sit there so its easier for him to get air. He doesnt like that AT ALL. On the other hand my female absolutely loves me! she loves to watch me when i walk across my room to get something or whatever and comes right up to the front of the tank waiting for me to feed her! (sorry that has nothing to do with the QUESTION I AM STRUGGLING TO ASK YOU WITHOUT WRITING TEN PARAGRAPHS OF THINGS YOU DONT EVEN NEED TO KNOW ABOUT MY FISH. WHAT A SUPRISE I AM DOING IT AGAIN

+BetterBetta ok! i will take your tips into consideration! the little shoebox i had him in an hour or so ago, was very shallow, which was what i wanted . But the water quickly got cold because i didnt buy a heater AND a filter just to put in a shoebox for a week or so until he gets better. But anyways, i put him in a net in my 10 gal and i propped the net kinda on top so the handle end way on the other side of the tank on the rim ( if that makes any sense) so he cant get to my female. Also, i didnt put him in there because if he was resting on the floor of the 10 gal, he would have to swim about a foot just to get to the surface. ( im sorry if you are in bed trying to sleep or you are busy and im bothering you.

Thank you so much! I'm very glad you enjoy my videos :) Also, great job on rescuing a betta! No shame in putting your betta in a small quarantine tank. A lot of hospital tanks are around 1 gallon. Avoiding breeding is smart- as it is certainly a struggle and can even be dangerous for the fish involved.. Even I'm not comfortable with it yet- and may never be! There are a couple things that could be causing Chip's lack of appetite. One could be simply the stress of the move - from a cup to a small tank, from rough water conditions to good water conditions, to one busy building (and possible cup tapping and shaking and handling) to a cozy, comfortably stable home. Some bettas don't eat for around 3 days after coming home from a store due to this. If he is struggling to swim, it could be swim bladder - which likely the few days of not eating could cure, and even if it is chronic, it is not fatal. I wouldn't worry until he has not been eating/swimming for around 5 days, as by this time your betta should have adjusted to his new home. Hope this helps, or at least eases your mind a little. :)

It was around $40 from Walmart, however it is actually only a 180 degree tank :)
