ok for instance...If you were a FISH and lived in a bowl would you be happy? Because 1. Its not enough space and 2. Would you like pennies in your tank (they are not fish equipment so don't use them because it can kill your fish) and 3. Those plants are to big to swim around the tank... and 4. You need to stop with the caps because your trying to get attention. Its not cute its just sad. :)

DONT REALLY kNOW HOW TO CLEAN YOUR FILTER MEDIA CORRECTLy?
IF U DONT WANT TO KILL UR BETTA /GOODIES YOU MUST READ!
Never wash FILTER media UNDER HOT OR COLD TAP WATER. Tap water has chemicals "Chlorine" will kills good and bad bacteria, which is living on ur media.
Without media good bacteria fish will die fast.
Never use tap water, only use dirty wc tank water, just few quick squeeze lightly
(plz dont try clean filtr=wipe out good bateria=DEALTH!)
use TANK W.C=GOOD BB=health fishes.

The filter media is a housing, help grow "BB-Beneficial Bacteria" that breakdown harmful Ammonia into, 2nd harmful Nitrate, BB then again convert it safely to Nitrite so it's bare able for the fishes to live a healthier life &not die of Ammonia poisoning to the gills.

I understand that this posting was yes ago and now things have changed and knowledge you have also gain past years.
But this is to whom ever starting off with betta fish and don't really know how to clean their Sponge Media filter.

I realize this is from 2 years ago...but for anyone else thinking of doing the same: 1. You really shouldn't have coins in the tank...copper is bad for fish. And take out that other fish. If its a goldfish, they have completely opposite water requirements than a betta. If it's a cory catfish, those poor things need to be in a school of at least 5-6...and a 1 gallon is way to small for the cat. 2. The Betta leaf should be about a 1/2 inch from the surface so the betta has a place to rest when sleeping and won't have the height of the tank to get air...3. Actually, it's pretty smart that you used rocks from your established tank as there is beneficial bacteria that is needed in the tank with new water. 4. With dirty Filters, never use tap water! Fill a bowl with the old tank water and gently squeeze it repeatedly until it gets clean. Buy a new one and see if there is enough room for both filters to go in there. After a week or so, the new filter should have its on bacteria and you can throw away the old one.

Please upgrade your Betta tank, a Betta needs at least 5 gallons.. this is animal cruelty 100%. I have a 10 gallon tank for my Betta and feel like it's not enough so going to go to 15 gallons. I know you care about your fish but maybe you just have not done much research. The need have water of around 24 degrees Celsius and no light.. they hate light.

Chené aren't rivers and rice patties exposed to the sun. When a betta swims in rice patties and rivers, don't they get light from the sun? Also, breeders in Thailand who own more than 100 bettas have their bettas exposed to light at a certain extent. Bettas might not hate light but they don't want it all the time. Btw, sorry for bringing this topic back into your life, but I just wanted to state my opinion like you have yours.

PozPoz Clearly You clearly know nothing about them. Bettas being territorial has nothing to do with the size of the tank. What.. do you think they live in a tiny space like that in the wild.... NO. 2.5 is incredibly small for ANY fish.. it is cruel and anyone who thinks it is okay must be incredibly narrow minded. Please actually get more than one fish before trying to argue. I have experience with taking care of more fish than you can think. The small space originally comes from what I would call a "myth" where it is okay to torture them with small spaces because in nature they come from puddles.... No! Not true they live in the river basins of the Mekong and Chao Phraya rivers. Yes.. sometimes the water they are in can get quite shallow but they still get swimming space and it is not forever like living with people like you. Light... come on, how incredibly inexperienced could someone possibly be to tell me a fish NEEDS light and of all.. you are telling me a betta needs light. The only one who NEEDS the light is YOU because you think shining an unnatural form of light on a fish, being tortured in a small space is.... pretty. Your research is highly innacurate.
PozPoz
PozPoz - 7 years ago
Chené This is so wrong. Bettas NEED light they don’t hate it. Also, they need a minimum of 2.5 gallons because they’re territorial fish. Please do research before critiquing.

Flowing Betta's They actually don't haha Listen most fish don't enjoy light unless u have a very odd fish. Bettas especially.. actually don't. I have allot of fish I take care of and none of them prefer light.. I take time into studying their behavior and my fish live long and never stress out, I don't experience death or anything in my fish unless it is due to an unavoidable cause. It is not your fish that enjoys the light, it is u. Overall fish don't like light unless it is natural. Think of it this way.. in nature there is not someone that switches a bright light on and off the whole time. It is WAY different from natural light.

Bettas spend most of their time at the top of the water so therefor staring into this bright light.... it is just common sense that it will not have a positive effect on your fish.

Reptils 101 Hi there, that is a great size for your Betta. low current filter is also the perfect option since strong ones may increase oxygen levels, they do stress out your Betta baby. also make sure there is no lighting in the tank or at least only leave the light on for 1/2 hours max if necessary. Have a super awesome day :-)

I don't recommend putting ANY fish in a 1 gallon tank, it just wont work in the long run. you have to clean it often because it gets dirty quickly, so maintenance is at least once or twice a week. And yes, all filters have to be left on all of the time.
