Seeing this setup used with a betta fish is concerning, since they need air to breath. Ideally bettas and fish with similar requirements, i.e. gouramis, shouldn't be housed in this kind of risky setup, but if they are the top should be painted opaque to help the fish understand that it can't surface there for air and it needs to go elsewhere to find air. It would be tragic if the fish tried to struggle through the clear glass, suffocating.

How do you control the water lvl? No over flow?

To explain it, you can fill your sink with water, then take a colorless glass and put it inside the water sideways to let the water fill it. Then, take the glass upside down and start pulling it up. You will see how the water doesnt escape and stays full of water. You must keep a little bit of the glass under water for this to work, though.

So you have a black ghost knife fish that get to well over a foot long in a TINY tank with nowhere to hide. Disgrace.

+Zoid Burg That was a temporary tank setup. After 20 days I switched it fishes to 300 gallon planted tank. No worries!

+rickybobbychuva its easy...you lift one end up above water level and air flows in and water flows out taking the fish with it....then you put it back and siphon the air back out and done.

+rickybobbychuva All other fish are okay, the problem was only with betta as it needed air to breath every now and then. Rest of the fish can stay as long as they want inside the bridge as the water is properly circulated (Sucked in from the left tank and thrown in the right tank. So same amount of water flows through the bridge).
And about the dead fish, it happened quite recently with a goldfish. Taking it out of the bridge was simple. I just took a vessel filled it with water from the right tank, waited for 10 seconds and then poured it right back in the same tank (Both tanks leveled during the 10 seconds wait and when I poured it back the water flowed to the other tank at high volume taking the dead fish with it, out of the bridge) .

+Harry creasian In the wild, wolves hunt for food, but you don't see people sending their dogs out to hunt on their own. There are differences between wild bettas and domestic bettas bred as pets.

If the betta is smart enough though, then it doesn't seem like such a big deal to me. I'd personally be worried about that black ghost knifefish or how I'd get any fish out if one got sick and stopped swimming in the middle of the bridge. ;__;

it's okay.. in the wild, bettas are known for holding their breath very long. Because they live in a very low oxygen water.

Do both tanks need to be the exactly the same volume or height or both

This way you avoid overflows? doesnt matter if I have a smaller tank? with a bigger one ? if the surface is at the same level?

Both tanks should be placed at the same height from the surface and also the depth of the tank should be equal as gravity makes water flows from higher point to the lower point and it can cause all the water from higher tank to flow to other.
Length and the width of the tanks can be different i.e volumes of the tanks can be different.
