I'm pretty sure this is a fiddler crab which are often sold as freshwater crabs, but they need brackish water. They also need access to land, and sand instead of gravel. The gravel can break their legs. Without these requirements the crab will slowly weaken and die over the course of a few months. Really wish people would do a little research before they just stick things in a tank.

Quite sure all freshwater crabs are Brackish and don't do so well in full fresh water, quite likely the crab died

i just bought a crab like this and put it in with my betta.
its making me nervous but they are doing fine. the crab stays at the bottom and my betta boy stays on top. sometimes he will swim down to check him out but he doesn't get close. im hoping everything will be fine. we will see!

grettagrids crabs will generally eat anything but the safest things to give them is small pieces of fish or even meat as long as you only add a tiny piece at a time and avoid throwing fat pieces in. The fat can pollute your aquarium badly. They'll also eat the same fish food pellets made for those fish that find stuff in the bottom in the soil. I think the best one is Hikari brand Japanese seafood. They make food for aquarium shrimp too which is closest to crab.

I know EXACTLY what you mean. I found an actual fish store about 30min away via highway and that's where we go now. Those guys actually know what they're talking about and are hobbyists outside work as well. I hope you find someplace awesome as well. No more dead fish-- and no more buying sick fish.

hey! now you know for next time :) the Internet seems to know more about pets than pet stores. especially aquatics. due to pet stores many betta fish owners have betta in 1 to 2 gallon aquariums when really they need at least 5. with a little research I think you will be able to successfully have a crab. they are very fun, cute little pets and when in the correct environment they can have very spunky personalities :)

+Alex Green thank you for letting me know. I actually just found out the hard way about this. But this helps me if i decide to get another 1 in the future. I have learned people who work at the pet store really have no idea what thry are talking about when you ask them questions. All the crabs were in a full glass aquarium tank with no sand no rocks and no way of hiding or no way of climbing out to get air. My crab only lasted 3 days before he died and it tore me apart. I shouldn't of bought something without knowing how to take care of it first. But i learned my lesson.

Mylena crabs really shouldn't be in an aquarium.. the ideal environment would be a tank with sand not gravel as it can break it's legs. also there should be plenty of land the crab can crawl on because they can not survive only underwater. I would also like to include their natural habitat is where ocean meets river, so they should have a mix of marine salt water and regular conditioned water.

Guys, you may find freshwater crab somewhere but should you really spend money on it? Most likely it will be sold by someone for a lot $ due to law and rarity. You probably will have much more fun and feel better if you just create a salt water aquarium and put some of the more expensive smaller supermarket crabs there. You can easily find some at Asian supermarket. They also may have soft shell crabs that are also for food but are usually not large. At least if it dies you won't feel bad like you would if you bought a freshwater one.

+Tvelok They only send inside of the united states unfortunately since the animals would not survive the long trip to other countries. Your best bet would peobably be to check the reddit page called aquaswap. Tell them what you are looking for and some of them may be willimg to ship to denmark.

Try aquatic arts, they sell three types of fully aquatic crabs. They sell emerald crabs, pom pom crabs, and thai-micro crabs.

They are a threatened species from australia. Doubt you will find anywhere that sells them for the purpose of being a pet.
