Warmer temperatures are here, and many Southeast Texans will flock to the area waterways to find ways to cool off, but the Coast Guard wants to remind boaters to be safe out on the water. Southeast Texas is known for fishing and other boating activities. Coast Guard officers say many boating accidents are preventable if just a few safety precautions are taken. They say it's the law that a life jacket must be available for every person in the boat and easily ready to put on.All children under 13 years old must have one on at all times. It's also important to have a fire extinguisher in case of emergency, as well as flares, a flashlight and even a radio to call in need of help. They say following a simple checklist could save your life.
