First and Final Frames Part II

After numerous requests, I finally decided to create a sequel to "First and Final Frames". Part II plays the opening and closing shots of 70 films side-by-side. Like the first video, some of the opening shots are strikingly similar to the final shots, while others are vastly different--both serving a purpose in communicating various themes. The side-by-side comparison can communicate an entire story, but also allows us to develop new theories about a given film. So once again, what can we learn from examining the first and final frames of a film? My deepest thanks to everyone for the praise and support on the first video! View Part 1 here: https://vimeo.com/122378469 MUSIC: "Together We Will Live Forever" by Clint Mansell Potential SPOILERS for the following films: Sunshine Snowpiercer Biutiful 21 Grams The Prestige All is Lost Take Shelter The Impossible United 93 Vanilla Sky Ex Machina Inside Llewyn Davis Dead Man Mystery Train Melvin and Howard Fury Full Metal Jacket A Clockwork Orange Eyes Wide Shut Eraserhead The Elephant Man The Fall The Thin Red Line The New World Road to Perdition Snow Falling on Cedars The Bourne Ultimatum The Imitation Game Flight Hard Eight Inherent Vice World War Z Wild The Double The Machinist Born on the Fourth of July Brideshead Revisited Maps to the Stars The Skeleton Twins Mommy A Scanner Darkly 10 Years Milk Lost Highway Boxcar Bertha Badlands Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai Ratcatcher Ida Raise the Red Lantern Gattaca Kundun Bringing Out the Dead A Most Wanted Man The Curious Case of Benjamin Button The Social Network Jack Goes Boating Submarine Half Nelson Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Babel Django Unchained True Grit Vertigo Oldboy Apocalypto Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Gladiator Mad Max: Fury Road World's Greatest Dad Copyright Disclaimer: Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Great job. It's so inspiring that I've made my own version. I hope you like it: https://vimeo.com/259957910

Yes! You put RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES into this one! I remember commenting on this in the Part I section a few years back, and you didn't want to include that there due to the title sequence. Glad you changed your mind for this one: those shots in RISE are breathtaking, and one of the best examples of first and final frames EVER.

I remember you! But yes, I finally came around to the idea that title sequences should count as the first "frame." Opened up a lot more possibilities!

Indeed. In all my writing of late, I've begun to incorporate this technique to - I think - pretty good effect. Check your private messages; have sent something your way.

This is truly beautiful. A bit disappointed that you didn't include The Fountain too since you used Together We Will Live Forever which is its OST.

Thanks so much! And believe me, I wanted to. The shots just didn't quite work with the video--that final shot fades in and out of white rather quickly. But I liked the song just too much to get rid of it.

Thanks so much! Glad to hear you enjoyed. I would love to do Part III, because there are a few really good ones that I had to exclude from this one. And you are welcome! I know a bunch of people were wishing I had done titling on the first video.

Thanks for another beautiful collection. Really makes me want to go back and rewatch some of those films. A few I haven't seen so now I have something to look forward to. I really enjoy the films whose first scene and last scene match up almost perfectly, it gives it a cyclical form and beauty.
