Excellent ! Thanks Brian , Boy , there is a whole lot of variables to consider ! You may be a small guy , but you definitely have some brains and some shoulders. I'm probably going to stick to surf , shore and kayak fishing , with maybe an occasional charter for some tuna , mahi or snapper. Fishing is expensive enough ! I know you are being modest , but you might want to mention , that a person really has to have some muscles and be in pretty good shape , because , it's a lot of work , a whole lot of physical work . Great Advise ! Hook Em Captain .

I own a 16' key largo and I just found a 1996 22' CC same make (key largo) in my storage yard, that has been neglected for 4yrs so it needs to be refit “ new gel coat and electronics and .do you or anyone else have an opinion on key largo hulls as an offshore boat.if I can actually talk the customer into selling it I would have matching boats inshore and offshore almost seems worth it.

Hey Brian and Darci! Looking into getting some outriggers for our 26 Pro Line SS. I remember Brian mentioned in this video what kind of downriggers yall have but I would like to know a,little more about your outrigger setup since our boats are almost identical. Tired of tangled lines!

Hey Brian! Great video good info. Answered a couple of questions I had. Need your insight though if you don’t mind. Just bought my first boat - 25ft CC. Really excited. It’s in the shop being refreshed. Motor is a 2003 Yamaha xo66 200 horse with an estimated 300hrs on it and a 60 gal tank. Question is, do you think I would take it to Bahama Bay from New Smyrna Beach? Let me know if you can. Thank you sir.
Darcizzle Offshore
Darcizzle Offshore - 7 years ago
I don't really make those calls Mark. That's for every captain to decide. We believe small boats can very safely be taken to the BS, as indicated in this video. But it's more about the Captain, preparation, and experience then the boat frankly. That 60 galloon tank is not going to leave you a lot to spare if something crappy happens, like you gotta go 10kts into a storm for 3-4 hours to get there. But IDK your boat either.

You are absolutely spot on about safety equipment
Brains and steering wheel
I fish moriches inlet all the time and every year people flip there boats
It's not worth it to catch a 20lbs bass to flip your boat over and maybe die.

I got a 20' center console
Compact fishing boat great for the inlet.
It's a pioneer 202 sportfish

I have one question and feel free to answers or not
Do you still fish moriches bay/inlet
Or you only fish Florida?

Why you say take metal off down riggers? What size weight do you pull in front of your teaser?
Darcizzle Offshore
Darcizzle Offshore - 7 years ago
OH lol. Downriggers used to have cable all the time. It makes this weird hum which is quite loud...lots of folks believe that scares the fish, others believe it attracts the fish. However the cable also rusts eventually and has to be replaced, and it's thick. Braid does not rust, does not hum, is cheap, and is thin so it cuts the water and has little blowback...most guys use braid now. Sorry for the confusion.
Roberttt
Roberttt - 7 years ago
Darcizzle Offshore on the down rigger you talked about taking the steel cable off and putting braid on it, great info vid thanks for response I made a big list from this vid lol
Darcizzle Offshore
Darcizzle Offshore - 7 years ago
Metal? I explained perfectly about the carbon outriggers.
We don't pull teasers often and if we did it would certainly depend on personal preference, speed, and the conditions, and what teaser. Thanks for watchig.

Videos like this are what's wrong with YouTube and other social media ... misinformation! No, Proline boats are not and never have been built by Donzi. Custom Marine Group (CMG) is the parent company of Fountain, Donzi, Baja, and Proline ... all of which are completely separate factories. Brian, it would have taken you two minutes to do your homework and get your facts straight before you said something so ridiculous. Shame, shame!
Darcizzle Offshore
Darcizzle Offshore - 7 years ago
It's more like nobody cares but you, I'm just giving folks basic information which is abundantly obvious from the video. You must have VERY little else to do today. You should go make your own video on this subject. Best of luck.
Bob Michals
Bob Michals - 7 years ago
Seriously, minor distinction ... I don't think so!? The Donzi is a STEPPED HULL and the Proline is NOT! I get you don't like being publicly embarrassed, but there comes time when you have to admit you're wrong ...or just look arrogant AND stupid!
Darcizzle Offshore
Darcizzle Offshore - 7 years ago
This hull is identical to the 23 donzi hull, that's the point of the conversation...explaining different types of hulls and using the name "donzi" that people have heard of to make the comparison. Nobody really cares about whatever minor distinction you are trying to make; Proline built by donzi vs. Proline AND donzi made by CMG...snore.

Question for you Brian.I have the opportunity to buy a 23 foot 1987 Donzi Center console, the boat has been fully restored and done over with awlgrip the price is rite at 6,900 with a a trailer that is in great condition.I would have to power it with a new outboard it is currently set up for a Yamaha 250.Do you think this would be a good platform for fishing offshore here in Massachusett?i currently have a 21 Grady walk around but would like something i could get out to the fishing grounds and back faster. Thanks in advance I enjoy your site here.

Darcizzle Offshore there is a big difference between outboards and a single inboard diesel. I.E. Cats. Yes, commercial guys use single diesels for the economy. Brian, thank you very much for the great information. I learned a lot from seeing up close what you run for gear. I agree with you 100% on the motor. One is plenty as long as you maintain it properly. I am extremely lucky finding a 25 ft diesel express so in that area I am blessed. I do have a couple questions for you. Do you or have you carried a raft? I used to always have one up in New Hampshire when I went offshore ( I think it was required equipment for giant tuna ) but I'm not sure I need one down here. I do have room for it on my boat up on the hard top? your thoughts? Is the fishing in the Bahamas worth the ride over or will I do just as well off the coast of Stuart? Learning the bait down here is like going back to engineering school.....way more difficult than the bait up north. Thanks in advance for your thoughts!!! Awesome videos!!
James McCarthyNH
James McCarthyNH - 7 years ago
Thank you for the prompt answer, you guys are awesome!
Darcizzle Offshore
Darcizzle Offshore - 7 years ago
No raft. Not required, not enough room to put it, we don't go too far out honestly (30 miles out is on the way in to BS!), and we don't die when we fall in the water here.

You will do fine in Stuart, but the BS are the BS. It don't get any better.

Love it...........I'm still rocking my old 1984 21' Proline.....walkaround cuddy......130 Honda......up here in Daytona......the boat has been wonderful and the engine bullet proof !! The boat was given to me in 95'.......was a mess and I rebuilt the entire thing.....wiring....stainless.....t-top.....instruments.....engine.........so now I know every single thing about the boat and can service it all myself......including the engine !!!

Thanks for sharing your perspective on alot of basic topics. I really enjoyed it. I grew up in southern Texas and we used to go 50 miles off shore in an 18 foot open bow when I was quite young. Since then my wife and I have been living in Kansas City but we have been thinking about a boat that could get us around the islands down there and explore, fish, etc. I found this helpful!

I know in the video you said you only occasionally run over to Bimini and what not, but weren't you guys over in Morgan's Bluff fishing not long ago? Did you run this boat over there or a different boat? Curious what your thoughts are on a sturdy 23-25 on something long distance like running the Bahamas etc.

Years ago I saw a sign in my barber's shop, hung right under a picture of his sailing yacht...
The sign read, "A boat is a hole in the middle of the water that you throw all your money into"...
He said that he got to enjoy that boat for 3 weeks a year. the rest of the time he was bissy making the money to keep it...LOL.
He was an awesome guy and barber. It was just a bit to sad that he never got to retire and sail around the world like he had dreamed...

I've got the same boat. 2004 w/ a Honda 225 on it. I like mine a lot. I've taken it to the Abacos and regularly fish 30 miles or more offshore (out of Canaveral). I like the mods you've done to yours; particularly the cup holders. Really dig the Seadek, but that's not in my budget. I've noticed if I store it for more than a couple of weeks with less than 1/3 a tank I have a problem with condensation causing water in the fuel. One mod I did to mine was to line the top lids of the fish boxes with 1" foam insulation board w/ aluminum duct tape...made a HUGE difference on how long ice lasts. Keep on catchin'
John Hewitt
John Hewitt - 7 years ago
I've always run non-e fuel. Maybe being stored outside contributed to my problem. Haven't had issues since I made sure not to run it low and then store it.

Brian-

Great video, I myself just recently got my first boat a older 2300 Key west CC. 23' is definitely a sweet spot for getting offshore affordably. I know you have viewers all over but I am also local to the boynton/lakeworth area and was hoping that maybe you could do a video explaining your typical trolling setups and spreads. I'm about to make the investment into the right tackle but guidance would be nice to try to lessen the learning curve and be a little more gentle on my wallet. Anyways I love the video's keep them coming.

Brian, great video. Very good outfitting of your boat. I think you are correct in running a single engine, especially the Yamaha, but a small ' kicker' off to the side would be a thought for slow trolling as well as a 'get home' solution instead of calling for a tow in the event of a main engine failure.

We had four power cruisers for a total of 43 years (yes, I am old) and were never towed in.

Anyway, great job to both of you on the videos.

Holy shit man. You know what is amazing? So, I live in the Pacific NW and I fly fish for salmon and steelhead. And, honestly, I'm not bad at it. But, my point is I have a gazillion rods, reels, heads, tips, flies, etc. So much it would make your head spin. And, then, to use them, you have to have lots of practice and know wtf you are doing! And, let's be honest, Darcizzle has such an athletic body, I subscribed to your channel, but I'm having fun watching this channel because as much as I know about fishing, you guys do it totally different. You two have a passion for fishing, which I share. But you guys use an ENTIRELY different approach to fishing because of your location and your target species. For me, that is what I'm enjoying about your channel. If you guys wanna try to get Darcizzle a steelhead on a fly, well, haha, she's gonna have to wear a little more clothes, and get a little better action than she was whippin' around in the Bahamas - but I'd put you on a chromer if you were ever in the area. Peace out and keep the fish wet! I hate seeing them out of the water for long.

thing is you go offshore in a small boat and that engine dies its not going to be all calm like at the dock. You are going to be rocking all over fucking around with an engine. Twins and you can put to steady the boat while you work on the other. To each their own. Don't get stranded out there and end up a lost soul over a dumb fish

yes used an anchor ball for years finally changed over to a windlass, best 700$ i spent, and i anchor in 200 + feet of water so have 400' and more rope out, next is going to be an offshore IPilot trolling motor instead of the anchor, too much better

in all my 50 years of fishing and boating I always dreamed of having the perfect boat. Well after owning 35 different boats I finally found it and it does great in my grandson's bath, no repairs, no maintains, no fuel or oil, etc. etc. Out of the 35 I would say 10 of them were pretty good and no regrets. Thank God for good sponsors. Best all time sponsor, PENN. Second, HONDA.

It's an area off the eastern edge of L.I. sound, the water goes from approx. 150' deep to about 35' very abruptly. So on an incoming tide from a distance it looks like the sea level rises about 3' in that spot. So when you fish there ,make sure you have your life jacket on. But the fishing can very well be worth it. Next you talk to your buddies up north ask them about it.

Good job flying solo, Brian! I'm moving down to the Gulf coast soon; now you've got me thinking about getting an offshore boat like yours. At least until you started talking about costs! But it's something to dream on. Maybe one day we'll cross wakes, and you guys can shout over, where's the hot bite!

Darcie, good luck with that last, final-final! You're gonna ACE it. It's a hell of a lot of work to get that far, but it will all be worth it. Applause and congratulations!

LMAO.....great stuff. Let me fist say this. I found this channel originally for 3 reasons: 1. I like to fish and don't get enough time or money to go. 2. I have a thing for sexy girls with long hair! 3. I have a thing for sexy girls that like to fish!! Now with that said, once I subscribed and started watching the videos, I find out there is a guy behind the camera from NY who says it like it is! IM from NJ originally, and grew up around people who talk fast, say it like it is, and don't sugar coat anything! Bathroom facilities on a center console offshore boat...hell yeah its a bucket and a roll of TP. If you need more than that, you don't belong on a boat anyways.I just finished watching a 25 minute video on your channel and Darci wasn't even in this one. Yall's channel is entertaining for me and is comprised of 2 people! Thanks for the info on boats, and the breakdown on costs too. I have always wondered how the costs break down for fishing offshore. I don't think you mentioned anything about docking fees, so my guess is you always trailer the boat and put in at a ramp. And the end of the video was funny too!
Darcizzle Offshore
Darcizzle Offshore - 8 years ago
They take it in and out whenever you want with forklifts. I get there, say put my boat in the water, they do, and I drive off. When I get back they pick it up and put it back.
rbljackson
rbljackson - 8 years ago
yeah I caught that. Figured that meant all year long it was stored there and you typically do day trips. Wasn't sure how things work if you spend a weekend or 4-5 day trip away from the ramp area. Not sure if you saw my comment or not from a past video, but you will know what Im talking about, Hell yes I  sure do remember snapper fishing as a kid, toms river NJ off the piers....LOL. And the snappers we caught sure as hell weren't red or orange!!
