Would that work with a bow line? My boat only has Cletes bow and stern.

James, use a long spring line that will stretch as you apply a load. My Cape Dory sailboats had just bow and stern cleats. I used a long length of three-strand nylon line for springing. As you tension the line, ease the spring so that the bow moves out enough to bring the rest of the boat flush alongside. It takes a bit of practice, but once you learn to use a spring, they will make docking easier in any situation (docking or un-docking).
