Denison Yachting it’s called an 0800 u rap the rope round one full loop then do an 8 without crossing over the rope then rap the rope 2 more times

You have an extra wrap in your cleat hitch that creates a binding tension that may be difficult to release later. Please check a trusted written source on how to do a proper cleat hitch.

No one knows how to tie a proper cleat bend, just walk down any dock.... But this "version" does look better than most figure 8's upon figure 8's I see all the time!

on the last part of that hitch knot, turn the loop away from the incoming line, not toward it..

That happened because he starts the cleat hitch with a full round-turn (>360 degrees) around both horns. If he started with the 3/4 turn and started the figure-8 at the far horn, the hitch would have ended as you suggest, which is the more standard teaching of the cleat hitch.

What's also odd is they use a posting image that shows the initial wrap starting on the wrong side of the cleat ... yet they rightly point out in the video that one should not do that ... and despite starting on the wrong side, that image shows the more standard 3/4 initial wrap around the cleat, which is why the locking hitch ends up in the correct orientation ... ????
