Of course it would be very dangerous putting the engine in gear and entering from behind with or without someone at the helm.
This we agree with you 100%
However this video is aimed at how to launch a boat safely by yourself with no one elses help, in very windy conditions.
No one is at the helm.
Modern outboards are manufactured to be safely started and locked in neutral running.
The safest and easiest way to enter a Quintrex is through the stern because of the safety rails rear door.
In windy conditions where you risk being washed on shore the best way to launch is nose first pushing from behind to gain momentum. (Boats move forward better than backwards)
Having the engine running before you launch in these conditions is a safer that trying to start a engine and have the wind blow you back to shore in which case you may need to exit the vessel again.
This technique is endorsed and taught throughout Australia by qualified marine license trainers.

(Love the videos btw. I'll be up for a new Busta soon.)
I would strongly suggest he put a line on the boat in case the winch strap parts or otherwise fails.
But not everyone has such a powerful 4x4 truck , and not everywhere such a pleasant ramp is available.
And "calm sea does not make a skilled sailor".
I appreciate the effort and intention of the video maker to show to the audience the basics , but far more better on the possible sand or gravel with a standard car.
I don't think it's going to make it to Fiji.....
And how long does it take for you to launch a boat?
I do not agree that a boat with an OUTBOARD or an OUTDRIVE at the back, is gutless. Far from it. In fact you have absolute control with an outboard/outdrive at the back as it goes where you steer it when going back. When going forward , unless one has a bow thruster, in the wind the bow will drop with the wind. Now with an inboard engine and normal rudder, true enough the boat is gutless, unless of course one has a bow thruster where when in reverse one could steer with the bow thruster.
With an inboard and a shaft drive I often use reverse and to correct I go ahead in bursts with the right rudder application and then back to reverse. It works and it is not gutless at all. With Twin inboard engines one can go sideways too applying a combination of reverse on one engine , and forward on the other with a selection of rudder control. One has to concentrate but it can be done. Yes I did say SIDEWAYS.
Not until 3:35 does he indicate the engine is being trimmed down, and yes at that point a outboard is NOT gutless in reverse.
Good information just the same.
