Nice simple safe one step at a time. Been doing that with my Albin 32+2 for a number of years. A bit unnerving the first time you do it but piece of cake after second or third time. The only part missed is to make sure that bow is raised high enough for rain drainage. Nothing like having a boat sink on land.

Too many instructional videos fail to give detail in their projects.You take the time and trouble to detail every project you undertake and i find that very beneficial. This was always the most nerve-wracking part of the job when I did this kind of stuff over 20 years ago. It always looks so strange to me balancing up like that. Then I got to climb underneath and work on it. then jump up inside and sleep in it. LOL

Another idea to help might be to shift your chocks forward in front of the wheels instead of removing them completely, and then if the driving forward didn't quite go to plan the chocks would stop the trailer before the centre jacks got knocked over. Great job tho!

That's a proven method with all sorts of trailers. Another is a chock in front of the pulling vehicle drivers side front tire.

I would measure from the jack to the next crossmember on the trailer then put a chock on the ground that amount infront of the wheel then you cant knock the jack over whenyou pull forward.

The stands along the sides of the boat were leaned in towards the boat with blocking on the outside edge of the base. They are very stable this way.

I always thought looking at the screw jacks that it would be much safer if there were a ratchet strap or something running between them so they couldnt slip out. Was born and raised just outside Worcester MA. Its so awesome watching your videos. Feels like home again.

That video very clearly explains a procedure that can be dangerous if not done right. I have done the very same process with a 4 ton, fixed keel sailboat. Because of the keel, there was less stability. Any time I was under the boat, my most trusted assistant stood with his fingertips on the side of the boat, ready to warn me if anything went wrong. It never did. I have seen the wheels removed from the trailer and replaced with bare rims, and the trailer rolled out on bare rims, when clearance was a problem.

While chain can rust, wood can rot or be eaten buy bugs, or sink in mud ect. I think chain isn't just the easiest. But I suspect it's more of a OSHA thing, a chain is definitely more secure chained together it can hold the stands under the boat. In Marina's some times boats sit on stands for years alot can happen to pine in a few years. All that said I held up a 19footer with wood, concrete cinder blocks. And one bottle Jack to do the lifts

+Peter Milley I believe Mr Sauzedde said and showed he angled the pop-it stands inboard to keep them from kicking out. I've never seen this in the yards I roam but I believe it's probably more secure being angled. But it's more fiddly then just attaching chains and hired yards tend to go the path of least resistance.

Is there a size of boat where you can't apply this method? Can hulls always bear their weight lengthwise to the rear?

//edit keel is the word I was looking for :P Can you generally expect a keel to be rigid enough for the whole boat to be lifted from one end or the other?

Well done. I pulled a 21 foot boat off a trailer many years ago the very same way. Getting the boat back ON the trailer is the real challenge - same thing in reverse.

+DeltaLou Water is abrasive. Some slipways require you power wash the bottom after it comes out of the water. If you don't believe that , then you've never owned a boat for very long to see it your self. but it can easily be proven with the same experiment coating manufactures do. run aerated over a sample , measure weight before and after , the difference is the amount worn off

+CharlieP That would make sense. I occasionally see guys bottom paint their 21-23 foot boats which live on the trailer year round. I've asked a couple of them why and they claim it protects the hull from blisters. Oooookay...

+DeltaLou Paint on the bottom wears out. Especially saltwater boats.
Fresh water boats have to be scraped periodically now in many areas due to Zebra Mussels.
The hull in this video is well cared for. Some people wait until its a disaster before trying to repaint.

They probably keep the boat on the trailer for the winter - in the water the rest of the year. The trailer may also be used to transport the boat to other bodies of water or for major maintenance.

you should also put chains between your stands, especially those forward two because they are likely to push away from the hull if anybody is moving around on-board. The Brownell powerboat stands you used should have key holes for 3/16 chain on the flat top heads.

Thanks Aaron, great idea about using chains. It would seem to be much safer with them! One can not be too safe when planning  to work under a thousand pound boat, which is what mine weighs. Actually this one in the video is probably  a bit larger and heavier. So much more the reason.
