This works on floating docks not on stationary poles. When the tide goes up and down they must be adjusted. I tend to leave a little slack depending on tides due to moons cycle and weather created. You always need to check unless you have floating docks.

Paul, this vid was mainly about positioning of the lines. You are correct about allowing slack on the lines. Thanks for your comments.

Brant, this arrangement works in slips as well as docks. No difference. Same lines, same concept. Bow and stern lines to keep the boat centered in the slip; springs to control fore and aft movement.

Works with pilings too. Same concept. Take out the piers and replace them with pilings in the illustration. Same arrangement. Bow and stern lines to center the boat. Springs to keep her from moving fore or aft.

Looks simple on paper, but kept me awake during storm tides, always running back and forth to the marina. I did get those rubber rods you wrap your lines around helped worry less.

Marty, spot on. You can only do what you can and hope for the best. I've done the same with a whole fleet of boats. It'll keep you awake for sure. Thanks for your comments.

Visit a West Marine store. They can help you select the correct line diameter. I like to use three-strand nylon for all docking or anchoring work. It wears well and is a lot easier to work with than double braid, in particular when it comes to splicing. Also, see my video on chafing gear to protect your lines: https://youtu.be/rX3SncEo8-s
