Imagine that you have two jobs. One you refer to as "the self concordant job" and the other You refer to as "the soul crushing bill-paying job". The Self Concordant job is river guiding. You’re a student and have your summers freed up. Since about sixteen You have worked in 1.2 million acres of wilderness running around like it's your backyard and taking people into this magical place. You’re required to be knowledgeable about boat gear, actual physical boating, medical emergency care, cooking in the outdoors (3 meals a day), camping, and natural &human history in the area You work. A typical day starts at 530am and ends around 11pm and for the most part it's magical. Getting to know people and show them an amazing part of the world makes it easy. Very rarely do you feel like you’re "serving" these customers and are more so making new friends and showing them the outdoors. You have a regular paycheck that pays daily, but you make most of your money from tips. So quality service is key. The soul crushing bill-paying job is working as a line cook in the kitchen. Fortunately, most summers You make enough money to cover big ticket items or rent for the winter months. This second off-season job is mostly for spending money and groceries. Line cook jobs can vary greatly in quality but the one You are currently residing in is slightly undesirable to say the least. A typical day starts anywhere from 1PM to 3PM and ends anywhere from 9PM to 1130PM depending on day of the week and how busy the restaurant is. You are expected to know all about how to read a recipe and properly execute it. You are also responsible for coming up with specials and items for our "travelers dish" daily. You are expected to keep a neat and clean work station and have all foods prepped for the busy evening so as to not run out of anything. You are also expected to stay late and clean pretty greasy objects. You get paid a measly $9/hr for this and get a small percentage of the tips from the front of the house. Your boss has mood swings like no other so some days it's a jolly good time, and some days you better not say a fucking word. It's hard to gauge. Currently attending school for psychology with an emphasis in research. You would like to pursue holistic healing with combination of movement therapy and positive psychology techniques. Today, You’re glad to have the day off. Slowly come out of this meditation while holding on to the feelings you had while in this meditation.
