Waterway Tips # 4 - VHF Radio Sècuritè Call

When traveling through any narrow passage, it is advisable - and just plain courtesy to fellow boaters - to call what is called a 'Securitie'. This lets others on the water know that you will be approaching them and will allow for preparations to be made by the affected parties. Should one boat need to hold back, or wait for another, each captain can call the other to make arrangements to pass safely. And don't forget to have your VHF radio on at ALL TIMES, monitoring channel 16 for such calls. I think I would just honk the horn approaching a narrow passage; thats what they do with car traffic when driving on narrow one way type streets in Italy....

+Lauren Johnson That actually might be more effective, as most #boaters seem to leave their VHF radios off in these parts :-(

Fear not, as I have another video coming up on that very subject. . .

That's a good idea. Thanks for these tips. Keep 'em coming. Do you have anything on combating those evil narrow picnic table benches? Haha, stay sharp.

Perhaps install seat belts on those picnic tables; or built in breathalyzers? If you blow over .08, the seat board just upend you into the air off the bench....
