Waterway Tips #1 - Special Lock Fees?
Boat 10 years ago 5,987 views
This is the first in a series of quick tips and insights when cruising on the Trent Severn Waterway. This time, we answer the question of whether there are special, or additional fees to use the lift locks (located at Kirkfield and Peterborough) or the Big Chute Marine Railway. Short answer is no, as the fees to use the lock system is charged by the foot per vessel for a specified period of time (daily, weekly or annually) and is not specific to any one lock. Please follow along on my Channel for more of these Tips, as well as hundreds of original Boating and Travel videos. The Trent Severn Waterway is located in Ontario, Canada. It's 240 mile/386 km long series of lakes, rivers and canals connect Lake Ontario at Trenton with Georgian Bay/Lake Huron at Port Severn and forms an integral part of America's Great Loop. For a complete breakdown on the fees, navigation schedule and more, please visit my Trent Severn Waterway web site @ http://thewaterway.ca/lock_schedule.html Video Location: 44.58983 -78.99106 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Remember to SUBSCRIBE to my Channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/boogabooster) for hundreds of my original boating videos and to follow our latest boating adventures. At the Big Chute Marine Railway, some of the smaller boats & PWC's sit right on the flat bed of the cart. Larger boats like ours have the forward part of the keel resting on the deck, but the stern is supported with straps so that the running gear is not damaged. We've gone over many times with different boats over the years and have never had an issue. Probably the easiest 'lock' on the system!
If you get my 'Cruising The Trent Severn Waterway' DVD, you can see an expanded, multi-angle look - and explanation - of that impressive machine in operation. The only one of it's kind in North America!
Cheers, Paul.
It may not come as a surprise, but here is yet another video I have that touches on this subject - https://youtu.be/emMPRA8J-P8
As well, you can visit my Trent Severn Waterway web site (http://TheWaterway.ca) for more info, including listings for every lock on the system, a funky Google Map which shows the entire route, 'Locking Through' help and much, much more. There is also a link to my associated Facebook Page, where you can see even More videos from the waterway. . . Hopefully we'll see you there, as well.
Cheers, Paul.
I am also in the midst of producing a full length DVD featuring the entire Trent Severn Waterway, from end to end, to be available later this fall. Subscribe to my Channel or Like us on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/Boogabooster4Fun) for the official release date!
Cheers, Paul.
Glad you are enjoying this new feature - more to come soon!
As for canoes, every vessel on the system is charged by the foot - even the surf board we saw one guy paddling through on a few years back!
