With everything you folks have to investigate / research / do to enter a different country it really amazes me when someone comments that you have it easy. I imagine your lives are just a different kind of fun. Megan YOU are an incredible woman! It is true that a smile does not cost anything to give, but you enrich people lives with yours. I do not know what you did before you got your sea legs, but like Jessi Combs, you are a women that charms naturally.

Please explain Health certificate ? My dogs have shot records but I'm confused by your referance to health certificate ?
niceguy217
niceguy217 - 6 years ago
The shot records are part of it Brandi, the health certificate is a vet who has seen your animal(s) and declared them to be in good shape with no diseases they would bring into a country. Hope this helps.

What a hassle to clear customs and Immigration. The Mexicans just walk across the US boarder. What about having a gun Do you need a permit if even allowed?

I've subscribed after watching the series, and looking forward to the next ones. I've missed a couple of the shorter clip videos, but mostly seen the episode ones. You guys are keeping everything upbeat and positive. I'm left wondering about the negative sides of things. I'd be worried about pirates/marauders/thieves, big storms, and sharks. Or is really all Jimmy Buffet and rainbows?

Obviously it varies. But I'm curious how much entry fees and cruising fees generally are when entering and exiting most countries?
Sailing Doodles
Sailing Doodles - 6 years ago
+rick frazier well it depends. A month in the bvi was only around $30. If I had stay more than a month it would have been another $250. The Bahamas was $300 for more than a month.

Thanks for posting this info - and for the links. Years ago (20+ years ago), there was a certificate you could get for your dog if you were coming/going to the UK (at least England/Scotland/Wales). It was a once a year form and allowed in/out much more easily. Not sure if it still exists or not.

You said not doing quarantine, they are strict, as if a 6 month quarantine is not already stupid strict. It's actually one if the worst countries to try to visit with an animal, which is why many cruisers avoid going there. Besides many other prohibitive laws they have.
Shane Flanegan
Shane Flanegan - 6 years ago
Josef Roesler; I think 6 months is strict and appropriate. Not sure what you mean by your comment or think I meant by mine. My comment regarding JOhnny Deep wa to do with him bringing his pet, silky haired terriers into Australia without declaring them. Cheers for now... ;-}

The thought of jumping on a boat and the dream to see the world, and then you have to deal with ports and fees and more BS... I very much about no BS.. or as little as need be.. Just as you jumped over some spots due to dog BS,,, no need putting your dogs threw that... Its sad as that a loss to those places. I keep coming up with it just easier to have no pets as its just one less thing to deal with.

What a fabulous Maintenance Monday!  I am sure that you and Megan helped a ton of people.  Next you should do one about what places are dog friendly and which are not - as well as the perils of flight with dogs when you make a visit home.  Great Job!!  I like you being a part of the narration and talking Megan.

Excellent info - on customs with in's and out's...
And the dog entry - perfect  !
You gave the right stuff - thanks again  !
In re to the USCG  - very good to know this, and from what you describe - you have had much less ? needless encounter than many....   find beyond a point they can be invasive - or KGB of the sea. And like you point out - when they spot-lighted you - one can only hope it was USCG  not pirates !  (see SV Sea-Wolf)
(The other side is of course their rescue on a 'May Day'- no doubt do lifesaving work-yay)
   The stealth night boarding -
that, I take issue with  and I have concerns that my dog would fully go into attack mode - that sort of unusual sudden invasion w/o real cause is war game rubbish !
  * I also wonder about legal situation - for gun possession on International waters, US waters, and then imagine each country will be different upon arrival .

Again - excellent information you guys -  nice smile Megan !

Beautiful Dogs! I wish it was easier for you to take them everywhere you'd like to go. I am VERY torn between sailing alone, or having a loyal K-9 sailing buddy with me as I sail Asia this year. As some of the places in S.E. Asia can be pretty sketchy & I'd love to have someone help me "guard' the boat. Unfortunately, I've also heard of "guard" dogs there actually being taken away and eaten :-(
