How to succesfully breed with Corydoras, from egg 'till fry...

This is the method I use for breeding with Corydoras. The video is an example of the Corydoras black venezuela. It's the method I use, not the only one, but a method wich is succesful for me. I use a seperate tank with only the breeding group..it's much more difficult in a community tank, because the eggs will be eaten - if not by the corydoras - by the other fish.

I noticed my Peppered Cory's were mating a few months ago when I changed from artificial to real plants.  I didn't think much of it at the time. That was until I found three baby Corys swimming around the base of one plant about 2 weeks ago.  I noticed this morning more eggs on the glass.  Whether it's because I took out the old plants because they were furry and replaced them with new ones a few days ago, I'm not sure.  I haven't a clue what the PH is, I haven't tested it, but it must be fairly decent.

I don't specifically wish to breed with Corydoras, but if you know of a video with advice on breeding them then let me know.

aim currently breeding them now they laying eggs all day 1000 of them
i can't really give you advice grabbed to corys and put them in a separate tank because other fish wil eat the eggs
you can tell the sexes by look at it the female is larger the the male als the female has an white sack on there bellies which grows a bit when its mating time but not that big .
i had to wait for 2 days . so in in order to breed them just put the male and female in 1 tank and wait you can try do the water chance method but i didn't and it worked

thank you! just keep the eggs in an darker place, so they won't mould ;) you can add a cattapa leave ( almond) and give them everyday some fresh water out of the community tank. you can give them cyclops as frozen food, it's good for fry. Remove the food they don't eat, to keep good water parameters. Do not give them food tabs, until they're about 2 cm, otherwise the fry will eat themselves to death ;)

There is not much difference between tank raised or wildcaught Cory's breeding concerned. The only difference are the water parameters...with wild caught cory's you'll have to match the water parameters with those of their natural habitat. If the cory's lived in a PH 6,5, they will breed much more difficult in a PH of let's say 7 or 7,5. A tank raised cory, wich is adapted to f.e. PH 7 will breed in PH 7 even if the PH in his natural habitat was lower ;)

thanks for the info.have you bred wild caught cory's? and are tank raised cory's easier to breed than wild caught? wondering if you have any experience on this subject.thanks again

The PH is 6,8..it depends on what Cory you're breeding with...some breed in lower PH, some in higher..they start to breed.when they're about a year...sometimes younger...important is that you have a bigger group ( 10 or more) and that you have 3 males for one female ;)

thanks for the info.what about the ph? did you know the ph level at the time of spawning? at what age do cory's start to breed? thanks again
Eska's aquariums
Eska's aquariums - 11 years ago
I lower the waterlevel about 50%...leave it like that for three days. In those days I feed them only with ( frozen) black mosquito larvae ( wich are very rich in protein). After three days I refill it through a spraybar ( so it looks like it's raining)...I use colder water...a few hours later, the spawning starts ;) I'ts a method I use, not thé method of course...

HOW DO YOU TRIGGER THEIR SPAWNING? DOES PH LEVEL MATTER, YOU DO WATER CHANGES?AND HOW MUCH COOLER,CAN YOU TELL ME YOUR METHODS IN DETAIL THAT YOU USED TO TRIGGER THEIR SPAWNING.THANKS

I change with water from the tank the parents are in..and a bit fresh water..I try to keep the same water parameters...If you change water with 'new' water, the fry could die of too much change in water parameters, especially Ph

Thx man! No I don't use medication : I put them in a seperate tank with water from the aquarium and air in it ( airpump). I change water daily.. I do use catappa leaves wich are very good for protection against mould. Also very important is to put them in a darker place (also to prevent mould) and of course when there are moulded eggs, I remove them, because they rapidly effect the 'good' eggs ;)
