240 Gallon Discus Tank - Automatic Water Changes
Discus 7 years ago 200,299 views
In this video, I go over my automatic water changing system in my 240 gallon planted discus tank. Automatic water changes can be relatively simple with a pump and timer. It frees up time and avoids a messy cleanup. Here are the links to the parts in my system: Pump: http://amzn.to/2oZXUT6 Float Valve: http://amzn.to/2pMBi8s Digital Timer: http://amzn.to/2pZZhQS Check Valve: http://amzn.to/2pMvHPx 3/4 inch tubing: http://amzn.to/2oSdCkL 1 inch bulkhead: http://amzn.to/2oSfRo1

But no point. You Discus are all stunted or atleast they won't grow to their full potential and also won't have the best looking body shape. Sorry to say this.

How to keep it without algae?
The algae should turn brown or purple and you can rub it off in a day or so.
I will try to make a balance by these fish :-)
But I have a problem growing algae on plant leaves

I think the siphon drip system is great for smaller tanks, but for the 240, I need a stronger flowrate. For example, when I do vacuum maintenace, I drain up to a quarter of the tank...it would take a while to fill it back without the pump. Also the siphon drip system on my smaller tanks often get air bubbles trapped in the hose, stopping flow. With the pump and timer, I don't have to worry about the siphon stopping due to air bubbles...this has been working great for me but I understand the cost effectiveness of a gravity/siphon drip system. so you change 20gallons 3 temes per day (8% water change)?? easy.
Globally, nice video. Having that huge ddiscus tank seems so easy with you.
I really like what you did. True source of inspiration for my futur project
1 question: why don't you just run the waste water from the sump directly outside? Wouldn't that eliminate the need for the tote and it's associated pump/float switch?
Cheers,
Daryl
Kidding, great job!
