i'd say as a hobbyist you can make enough to cover the hobby if you do it right, breeding discus can be a very involved and time consuming process... or you can buy younger cheaper fish and raise to larger expensive sizes. there is a lot of overhead expense as well.

main objective is to enjoy the fish, whatever I sell is to pay for upkeep and expenses, if I have a lot of fry I sell a good amount and keep the ones I want
