Angelfish Tank- DIY LEDs! My New Favorite Aquarium

http://amzn.to/2CtOUfI - These are the LED pods. There sort of tough to find when searching for them.. They’re called “van lights led” or something along those lines. 12v LED Panels: http://amzn.to/2CtOUfI I’m obsessed with these new LEDs I found on amazon. May have asked before with no answer. Ever since I added plants I keep getting green gunk on the substrate and glass. It's 10gal. 2 adult male platy and 3 platy babies. 2 nerite snails. Do I need to add more snails? What's the best way to deal with it? I am looking at getting fish for my son's next weekend, my eldest son loves fish, aquariums and even the fish mongers 🤔, I set up the tank yesterday but looking at putting minnows in, it is a 24L tank. Do I need a heater for minnows? I see alot of tanks these days with lights, are there any bemnifits? If there is any other advice anyone could give me that would be great thanks So six hours? Does that include natural daylight time? It's not in front of a window but my blinds don't really block the sun. Right now I have a fluorescent light. Is there a better light to switch to? Obviously I like to have light at night to see my fish but don't want to do anything bad for them. My tank and light are from the 70s. Because I'm the same and enjoy the fish in the evening my light auto switches on at 3pm and switches off at 10pm, during the day my tank is covered (sometimes just one end) with a sheet/blanket to minimise UV exposure from the floor to ceiling windows in the room as direct sunlight enters late afternoon. Of course, good lighting max 6-8 hours a day on a timer so the fish get used to the cycle will definitely achieve that, maybe even with your current 40yo globe. I don't know what sort of fish you have but at the extreme end you could even get a quality LED setup that mimics real daylight cycle including soft sunrises and sunsets with colour change, LED's arguably compromise plant growth though due to restricted spectrum. My understanding on bulbs (I use led) is that even when they show light they aren't "working" and really will only grow algae. I think they are supposed to be replaced every year. I had one running for 10 yrs at one point bc I didn't realize it. I love the light (much whiter) of led and mine was only $30 on amazon. Flourescent bulbs being replaced every 6-9 months is apparently important to keep the best wavelengths to grow the real plants that you do want. Also more like 6-8 hours not 10-12 is better. this is the only shot I have. Some of what was on glass. I cleaned most of it out today when I did vac. I will see if there is anything tomorrow to get a shot but I doubt it. I know the gravel had green coating and as I was trying to vac it would seem to bunch up. Reminded me a little of seaweed. Hi! I'm cycling a 180 litre (40 gallon) planted tank and I need help with stocking. I plan to have amano and cherry shrimps, neritina and apple snails, kuhli loaches, celestial pearl danios and maybe also emerald dwarf rasboras. As I understand all of these are mostly in lower levels of the tank. Could you suggest a small peaceful fish who is mostly top level swimmer? I have two questions. And the water is cloudy because a big water change and filter cleaning happen, but I was wondering between these two rainbow fish, is that aggression or some type of breading dance? No butting or nipping just circling each-other and rubbing. And my next question was how can I get these plants to flourish? They were all good for about 2 weeks and then everything Just started melting. I don’t really have the money for a full co2 system, but ehh could I do to make here plans flourish, and grow thick and spread? I will trim all dead plants later tonight.
