I never got in to keeping Discus but have always been amazed by his fish. May he rest in peace. Keep up the great work of working with kids. You are making an impact and great memories for them.

Jack Wattley was a man every man could look up to, even if you only looked at his military service record. It is sad when we lose those who were blessed with the divine touch of greatness. Jack's memory will be holdfast in the hearts of his loved ones, and those who loved him. Untold generations of fish keepers, hobbyists, and aficionados will never be able to express their gratitude to jack for his work. Jack Wattley was a rare soul that will be sorely missed, in a world made a little darker by his passing. Godspeed mister Wattley thank you for your service sir, may you rest in peace.

Love that youre all about the kids, but you gotta watch the language. My 10 year old thinks youre awesome and loves your vids, but I have to screen them for language. RIP Jack Whattley. Very sad, HUGE personality in the Discus world. He will be missed.

Man I'm not going to lie, this got me a little emotional, because WHAT A LIFE!!! He seemed like a man that really enjoyed life and was not scared to fully enjoy what he loved! RIP Jack

My dad has tons of those tropical hobbyist magazines. Me and my brother as kids would raid his old fish room to find filters, aerators, or anything we could use in our secret fish tanks.

Been keeping fish on and off for roughly 24 years now.. just got me a used 48"x30"x20" tank and planning on dirting it. Just had to throw that down as YOU were the one who got me into planted tanks in the first place 5 years ago. So thank you and I hope you're able to plague more people with this beautiful hobby

Dude sounds like a fish keeping God. It must have been difficult flying a single engine plane from US to Brazil and back in the 70's with all the other stuff being smuggled that way during that time.

I recall pre AOL days learning from these magazines too! I found boxes from an unknown location all about the females and stuff, good times then, and very informative.

I can remember waiting each month for my copy of Tropical Fish magazine, I would read it over and over just to make sure I didn't miss any thing. Jack will be missed by every one.I still have a few old copies from many years ago. Thanks for all your videos and keep them coming.

Well, there is a large asian population so I would not be surprised if there were plenty of aquariums, just not a lot of groups. Lol, at the DC comment.

I didn't know how many people were into aquariums in the SF area until recently this year when I worked with many different people on tanks. It was definitely an eye opener :) I get confused when people say DC since i'm down here in Daly City aka the other DC lol

Discus nowadays aren't anywhere near as difficult as before. They do like clean tanks, which will never change haha. I've seen people keeping discus in ph as high as 7 (i personally wouldn't advise that as you can run into some stress with them) but just saying. They're much hardier now that they've been bred in captivity for so long. Just keep away from the wild caught as those are definitely finicky

Wow , he had a good life, I can hardly keep my petco fish alive two died this year but I only have a 10 gallon planted dirted tank, and man it was hard the first two months, I did everything wrong. R.I.P. Jack Wattley! God made man in his own image, even if there is life on another planet they are not as special as us, even the angels were not made in God's own image. I think this why we have the urge to do something Godly like make a little world like an aquarium. Some of us are better at it but everyone gets good eventually. You made it easier to get there eventually Jack Wattley because God walked a little bit closer to you while you cared for your tanks being he was getting some pointers without you knowing it. Thanks from us all.

Sad to here about the passing of the discus legend...I’ve had tanks throughout my childhood but just seriously gotten into it at 25 and it’s been a year since then. From watching you and others I’ve learned a lot and have made a flourishing tank thanks to everyone. Love the thorough video

I love what you do for the youth. However your knowledge astounds me. I never did anything with planted tanks because of the fish I keep. Your knowledge introduced me to plants compatible with my fish. You are selling yourself short not feeling just as much satisfaction for what you do for us. I believe you can and will be the Jack Wattley of planted aquariums. The hobby will surely miss him but his ideas imagination and legend will never leave.
