Hey Jacob love the channel and plants you sell would you tell me where I may find a list of things you used to build a pond like that or like the other where did you get the information on how to build it and all the things needed?

This may be a silly question but do you have a hard time keeping mosquitoes out of the water?

I have noticed a couple but the fish in the pond tend to bother them too much for them to have time to lay eggs. They also will eat the eggs too. Thanks for watching.

I love all of the plants, but I'll never put any in my goldfish tank. I just watch these videos because I think you're stinkin adorable. Haha.

By the way, I think that's a lake, not a pond lol.

Looking good:) How do you plan on combating algae or hair algae growth in particular? I have snails that I used to eat a lot of the algae but it still grows like crazy due to the nutrients that I have in my water from my goldfish. I actually grow plants like strawberries, onions etc. etc. in my system to eat the nitrates. I may have to stop by your nursery because I live in Huntington Beach California so you are not too far away from me:)

JacobsAquarium that's such a bummer to hear, I'm not a fan of 2 faced people either. I'm going to go and see what happens. I will also let you know when I plan on coming to the nursery. Ttyl
JacobsAquarium
JacobsAquarium - 4 years ago
Yeah I could still go, but like I said, wouldn't be an enjoyable experience for me. I won't say any names, but some of the people there are just not good people. They put on this happy persona for their public YouTube audience, but in real life, they're mean, hateful and just plain unfriendly. Its too bad, because it ruins potential opportunities, like this one, to meet some of my subscribers. But that's fine. My viewers come to the nursery all the time, as I'm sure you will someday. Take care.

JacobsAquarium - 4 years ago
Changed my mind, sorry about that. I found out there will be some people there that I don't quite get along with. It wouldn't be an enjoyable experience for me having to avoid them the entire time I'm there. So I'll pass, but I look forward to meeting you someday. Have fun at the meet and greet. Thanks for watching my videos.

too bad predator and oddball fish can't live in outdoor ponds. maybe they can, but u prob need some kinda advanced heater for both summer, and winter. Aimara Wolf Fish need to live in the wild or a gigantic pond like yours, same for other large oddball predator fish.

With all my previous ponds, I never did water changes. I would only top them off so the water level was always the same. I did regular testing and my parameters did not change much if not at all. I figured a system like this was more stable because of its size. Thanks for watching :)

Aren't you worry about algae?
JacobsAquarium
JacobsAquarium - 4 years ago
Alpha lee I use a UV Sterilizer that helps with free floating algae and bacteria. I also keep allot of plants in the pond which consume most of the excess nutrients nuisance algae feeds on. The pond is currently free of nuisance algae and will continue to be. Thanks for watching.

JacobsAquarium
JacobsAquarium - 4 years ago
Yes they can. I'm not worried at all. I've grown all these plants you've seen in this video, in a variety of conditions, outdoors and indoors. As long as they have a sufficient supply of co2 and nutrients, they're fine. Thanks for watching.

Awesome job Jacob. All those plants can stand those extremes in summer and winter? As you know, corona can get in the 40s often in the winter, and in summer it will get into the 100s.
JacobsAquarium
JacobsAquarium - 4 years ago
Well that would be pretty challenging. 99% of my nursery operates outside exposed to the elements. Other then the Greenhouse, but still that too can fluctuate drastically in temperature. Tropical fish would not survive in these conditions. Its possible to control temperature with chillers and heaters. But the cost in electricity alone and just to buy those devices would astronomical given the size of the holding systems I'd have the fish in. I'd love to offer Tropical fish but its not possible in a retail nursery environment. If my business was indoors it would be possible.....thanks for watching.
