Looks like it had an injury and the fin is scarred. I've had that happen, when I used hard plastic plants in a few tanks, it can also happen when fish decide to fight and end up taking chunks out of each others fins when they chase eachother off.

It is a very good specimen clearly captive bred. Discus prefer low ph water the water to have some tannins in it this can be achieved with a little peat moss in the filter and lots of plants for them to hide in. Put all this together and you can enhance the color of just about Discus. I had wild caught greens for years and years and though when they arrived they showed very little color when my water quality was achieved they were just gorgeous.

Waterquality...then they can be agressive...due to the stress they have to endure...keep larger groups, like 10 or more in bigger tanks will give you a harmonious group of discusfish without the problems you described...
