Ok. I think what I got out of this was that my plan is worth a shot. My plan is a pair of Kribensis in a 20 long with maybe 5-6 bronze corys and guppies. I'd set up two caves, each in opposite corners and let the Kribs choose which one they like. Then I'd set up a fence type arrangement of stem plants around their area. I imagine it to be about 1/3 of the tank as the Kribs area and the rest for the corys to scurry around. I figure if any corys wonder into the Kribs yard that they'll just be chased out and no harm done. The guppies will go all over but probably will learn to steer clear of the Krib cave vicinity.

Hi Cory.
In general if I put a single female Krib in a 30 gallon community tank with guppies, a pearl gourami, about 8 or so albino Corydoras and a bristle nose pleco; it is also a planted tank with some wood forms. What is the most likely level of aggression the krib would have?
Thank you

Watching your channel has inspired me to start keeping live plants.. I have 6 tanks at the moment with a 20 gallonthat has planted substrate and plants like Java Fern, anubias, and wisteria just trying to get my feet wet.. so far so good they’ve been in the tank about 3 weeks now.. 3 of my 6 tanks are African cichlids.. tang community.. peacock/hap.. and a Shellie tank.. I am placing my first online plant order from you guys very soon hopefully this weekend.. I was wondering if I ordered the African cichlid plant package are they all plants that can be tied or glued to rocks and or wood or do some of them have to be planted? Only asking because all my tanks have aragonite/crushed shell substrate and idk what plants are able to be or will thrive in sand
Aquarium Co-Op
Aquarium Co-Op - 6 years ago
THe majority will be anubias and java ferns which get attached to rocks, and some vallisneria which is a native plant to lake tang.

My 3 German rams couldn't care less about my bronze corys. And I have a lot of bronze corys. My female gold even swims with the corys, and the rams like to eat with the corys. When it comes to spawning (my two females spawn every other week) the male likes a fake mangrove root with the top of it near the surface, and he gets the females to spawn there most of the time. The corys never go there and the other fish learned to stay away from the eggs. When they don't spawn there it's in a corner the corys never go to.
I've had this tank set up for many months and most of my fish are at adult size. The tank is heavily planted too.
In the end, it the parameters match, the tank size is good, it just depends on your fish's temperament. My rams will only chase fish from their eggs when the fish are literally on top of the eggs. And the chasing last for a second. They never even nip.

This is a question I’ve been wanting to ask! It’s like you read my mind! Thinking of apisto Panduro with corys in a 55 heavily planted. I really like the smaller cories (ie habrosus) but feel they would be two small.

Corys-Cichlids relationship i believe is like Guppies-Angels. How i manage to make my angels live well even with guppy fry, is to make sure that the fish are about the same age, feeding a lot, much cover and the population of the smaller sized fish must be bigger than the bigger one. Whats your opinion?

I never had my Bolivian ram or my German Ram bother my Corydoras.  My Bolivian ram only hated my German ram.  My German ram started becoming a little jerk and killed a pair of  Serpae tetras that my mom added into the tank.

Hi cory can i mix Koi, Silver Arowana, blood parrots and maybe a oscar in one pond ? i'm just wondering if they can co-exist in a pond setting, like mixing the arowana blood parrots and oscar when they are still juveniles so they get used to the setting when they grow older and longer term they are gonna be great mates.

Haven't had a chance to watch the video yet, but if he asking can you keep Cory's with Cichlid...NO! NO! NOOO! Don't even try it. Had 3 speckled Cory's that we're hold overs from a theme change (community to dwarf cichlids). At first I thought everything was fine. The next morning, 1 Cory dead and mostly eaten, 1 Cory missing both eyes, last Cory missing tail fin...all of it. Rushed them into another friendly tank, and they both lived. Blind one relies heavily on the other now, but they both seem ok (such as it is)

We just adopted two Scarlet Badis and five Asian Stone Catfish. Three cats in one tank and two in the other. The tanks are the Fluval Spec III and Fluval Spec V. Both tanks also have one blue velvet and one bloody mary shirmp. I did not pickup any dwarf cory cats for a reason, mainly because I feel that the Asian Stone Cats (or Anchor Catfish as they are sometimes known) are a better fit for nano tanks and do just as good of a job as the Corydoras if not better. Plus they look and act much more interesting than Corys.

Both are planted tanks without CO2 using Tropica Soil Powder. Both Scarlet's currently live in the five gallon pending cohesion between each other. With the two Badis' in the five gallon, we were contemplating moving one of them to the 3 gallon and adding some CPD's to the five gallon. Would that be an acceptable community and how many CPD's would you recommend with the current population in the five gallon?

In my humble opinion, I don't think the Spec III would be an adequate size for a single Dario dario, two stone cats AND some nano fishes such as Phoenix/Chili/Kubotai or Emerald Dwarf Rasboras or the like. However we do want some other nano fish in the three gallon too. What do you think about those additional stocking options? Two more additional nano options are the Ember Tetras and Dwarf Golden Barbs. Unless you can think of anything else to add to that list? I'm really hooked on the CPD's and want to try and house them in one of our tanks.

Lastly, as far as algae clean up crew, will the shrimp be sufficient should the algae start to arise or should I consider some sort of algae eater such as the Otocinclus? Keeping in mind that we do not want to overstock nor do I want to be "borderline" on my stocking limit. I have lived in barracks, dorms, ditches, survival shelters and so on, so I'm not okay with tight quarters if I can help it. Wasn't fun for humans so it certainly can't be fun for fishes either.

Thank you for taking the time to read this novel. (It's what I'm known for on YT - essay like answers by Bert Shackleford). And yes Cory, I am aware that you dislike anything smaller than a ten gallon, however I am meticulous in my hobbies and do not mind stick to strict parameters. It's part of my fastidious nature. Knowledge is my obsession.

Keep up the good work my friends.

EDITED for missing information.

At one point I had 3 GBRs and 7 Sterbai Corydoras in my tank without any issues. Currently, I have them in my 36 g with my very temperamental, moody, & borderline psychopayhic Angelfish, and even my Angelfish leaves them alone. So far they’re a perfect addition to my tank.

Hey Cory! I need a little advice! I’m fairly new to fishkeeping and I am looking to start a community 55 gallon tank. Here’s what I’m thinking: 5 zebra loach for a good (not over exceedingly big) bottom dweller. 1 Dwarf Gourami for a centerpiece (I’ve read these will do good on their own but I’m still not sure?) And 5 or 6 Platys. I’m also thinking about a dark sand substrate to bring out the color of the DG and for the sensitivity of the Zebra loaches barbels.

What are your thoughts? I’d appreciate it! Thanks :)

Great advice as always, I've done it with orange laser corys and apistogramma cacatuoides but I hover over my tanks like a mother hen. That tank is a retirement tank for my old breeders and I usually only keep one old male at a time in there the addition of the female and they get territorial as heck. Corys always seemed to know how to stay away.

All you can try is frozen food. It is the only thing they might eat aside from live

Cyprian
Cyprian - 6 years ago
George Couling and it means they will like you better. A wild fish has to learn a person means food. They may hide all the time and not understand flake food and pellets. Tank raised will follow movement and eat almost anything that is fish food.
Cyprian

George Couling It means they have been breed in captivity and not caught in the wild. Wild caught fish can have trouble adapting to new water parameters.

As general natural behavior, it's a no. But in my short time having fish, I've learned that each fish can develop flexible temperament and get good along with other fish. That gets it out of the chart. Like my half moon beta getting good along with Anglefish and fancy guppy. Well that's my opinion.

George Couling Rachel O'leary(i think is how you spell it) has a great video on apistogramma on a species spotlight. Also Cory has talked about them a few times like in his centerpiece fish video. I personally have never kept them, but what i have read just depends on the fish, and the amount of good territory.
