Love your vids. I've used paraguard for sick discus and it's been awesome. Always have a large supply of the stuff in hand! It's worked for me on multiple tanks for multiple fish. Through hard knocks I am a believer in QT. Two of my community tanks (not discus) a 36 gallon and a 20 gallon, I've not added a new fish for over a year. Same weekly routine of 35-40% w/c and keeping filter media clean. Not a single death in a year in either tank.

Scuba Steve thanks for all your advice on all your videos. can you please tell me how you acclimate your discus? I'm trying discus for the first time.

Scuba Steve when should I start running the meds?

Scuba Steve thanks for your advice again. I just finish acclimating. And they're in the tank. They look fine. Now I will quarantine like you do. thanks.

+Desmond Barnes I float the bag, add a half a cup of water, wait 10 minutes, repeat and dump. Or if your ph is close to the pH in the bag, drop and plop. They may sit at the bottom for a minute or even lay on their side for a couple of hours but they'll pop up and be swimming in a few. Good luck!

Hi Steve. Good video as always. Do you use ParaziPro and metroplex directly to the tank or do you make medicated food? How long on each meds to do total of 2 months? Thank you!

I wish mire people would realize this. It's not about saving money, it's about saving the fish.

Here is a massive news breaking bulletin! Man people underestimate the need of a QT big time. I just got a new guy and "plop" into the QT he goes. No matter how pretty or how healthy a fish looks. I alway quarantine them especially before they go into the main tank with my big boys and gals. Great vid man

+young tank Sorry to hear that. One of the fish in this video is just now showing signs of ich. No jumping the gun on moving these guys; 2 months minimum! Thanks for sharing! Important for others to read these comments and see other people and how they feel about it.

Do you soak the medication into food or put it into the water? Interesting thoughts on medicating stages for new fish. How long do you medicate in each for?....Btw, listed the new video. Thanks

Sounds good. I got one fish that looks a little emaciated and a little lathargic. He still eats and still comes to the front of the tank. I've treated the fish with Fenbendazale dewolmer for 5 days and now I'm treated with Metroplex. Any thoughts?

yeah your 100%correct in your advice. ive been in the hobby for 20yrs and only recently started quarantining my new fish. this was a result of learning a very expensive lesson. i lost a full community tank to camalanus worm and it so could of been avoided if i had quarantined Plants i recieved from a friend. thats right PLANTS.

I brought a black moor many years ago. It looked healthy however within a week it got white spot disease and wasn't eating. Infected all my healthy fish and killed them all! I tried treatment but wasn't effective that time. Even after I cleaned and took the tank down for a year the disease still persisted in the tank when I set it up. Long story short I lost some fish but I WON THE WAR!!!

+Scuba Steve I just ordered on ebay a RODI unit reverse osmosis for $85 100 gal and a uv sterilizer for $30 and the discus buffer waiting next week for the product to come al keep you posted.
Alexzy Rivera Calderon
Alexzy Rivera Calderon - 9 years ago
+Scuba Steve al get the RODI unit and I saw one for $150 is that good enough ? on ebay and the uv sterilizer for $30 .and get the moss with drift later when I get the new tank
Alexzy Rivera Calderon
Alexzy Rivera Calderon - 9 years ago
+Scuba Steve I got my fish from a pet store they told me they got there's in a wear house and they kept them in a pH of 6.4

which uv sterilizer you recommend ?

and where do you get your moss and drift wood ?
Alexzy Rivera Calderon
Alexzy Rivera Calderon - 9 years ago
I heard from the pet shop guy he said he uses salt when they turn a little black but i did not believe him at all lol .I should just continue the process for 3 weeks of metroplex then para gaurd after . And also am from nyc the pH comes out high at 7.5 from tap water but I keep it stable 6.8 with A.P.I pH down. I don't have access to r/o water. Would this be a problem later down the line because I would like to order from Kennys or hans discus . And please keep us posted with a video series on quarantine because there's no videos on YouTube that explain the process. Thank you so much for your help.i would like to send you a picture of the discus I have so you can get a better idea what they look like and maybe see something that I don't see but you tube does not do that lol .

Alexzy Rivera Calderon - 9 years ago
+Scuba Steve how you doing Steve I have a question on the salt does it help with the quarantine process . I have a pigeon blood that has little black spots but eats normally does not stay on the top in a corner or any signs of white feces I was told the salt helps get rid of the black spots and could it be possible that some pigeon blood come naturally with a little black spots as I heard from simplydiscus.com on a YouTube video .and I also have a white discus that is doing really well shows no signs ether. I did get the metroplex that you told me to get and I have been treating them for 4 days now and I do a 50 percent water change every 2 days to apply the medicine again and I add 3 little spoons in a 20 gallon .I also raised the heat to 88 and have a aqua clear 110 and sponge filter inside. am looking for 50 or 75 gallon tank on ebay at the moment until the quarantine process is over. I spend a lot of money so far on these two discus just trying to keep them healthy I made the huge mistake getting it at the pet shop never again :( . but they look like they are doing well and are eating like pigs

+Scuba Steve I usually just rinse a live sponge into a pitcher of water then pour it in the new tank, but I still feel like it's too risky. (I'm also talking about impulse buys, not fish you plan on acquiring)
Ironically, the GBR is the first fish I haven't QT'd in months. lol
It's poop turned from grey to brown in a day or two btw. All looks good so far. I hope to do a video today.
Dan Hiteshew
Dan Hiteshew - 9 years ago
+Scuba Steve I have spare tanks, but I don't want to qt in an uncycled tank. Especially a sensitive fish like the GBR I just got. (So far, so good)
Dan Hiteshew
Dan Hiteshew - 9 years ago
+Scuba Steve yeah, I'm pretty bad about it. I throw the dice too often. Mostly depends on whether or not I have a tank free to use as a qt.
