You and your wife seem like very nice people who are down to earth, smart and experienced. I watched all your videos. David you sound like an engineer like my dad, God bless his soul. He was very precise and organized at everything he did and that has rubbed off on me. I hear Discus are sensitive and need lots of Love and attention to thrive. They are lucky fish to have you both. They are really special fish, no wonder everyone loves them, sweet little faces and personalities. Thank you for showing us them and how you care for them. Very helpful.

Hey David, can you tell me your water parameters before chemically adjusting? My well water is extremely soft and way to hard to fix it.

Hi Joshua,
My tap water GH and KH are almost unmeasurably low, pH is around 8.5. It took me a long while to work out (with some help from my LFS) what to add that would create a somewhat stable water chemistry that was right for discus. I'm currently changing around 18 to 20 gal of a heavily planted 65 gal tank around once a week. I treat the water by adding 1 tsp of plain epsom salts that I get from the pharmacy and 1 tsp Seachem Equilibrium for managing hardness. I correct the pH with Kent Marine pH Control Minus (for me, 3/8 tsp) then add 1/4 tsp Seachem Acid Buffer to help keep it stable. I also add Seachem Prime to treat the tap water for chlorine / chloramine. The secret for me was the half-and-half epsom / equilibrium. With no equilibrium my pH would drop into too acid a range after several days. With only equilibrium the pH would get too high. The balance of the two let's me get the hardness up in my soft tap water with an overall stable pH. Every water source is a bit different, so you'll likely need to work out you're own details, but that's what works for me. Best of luck to you.

+Discus Aquarium Care How old are the discus in this video and how big are they roughly? My tank is just 10gal smaller than yours and I'm trying to get an idea of how many more discus I could add to break up their bickering. Because the pigeon blood chases the only other 1 I have at the moment a lot. I want to add more as I find the colors I want available but I don't want to over do it either with the other fish I got in there (ram cichlids, a loach, catfish) considering their possible max adult sizes. I'm not against upgrading my tank down the road though either.
