for Discus fish tank got COLD!!

Thanks for sharing this. I recently had the same problem with one of my tanks with German Ram’s in it. I was doing water changes and for some reason my water heater wasn’t working. So I was pouring freezing cold water into my tank. Fish where going into shock.
I added a spare 200watt heater and all you can do is wait and hope for the best.

The day afterwards my fish where back to normal, so I hope for the best for your discus.

Since then I always have an extra 200watt heater with my waterchange equipment.

I am really happy to see the Discus doing well after that sudden temperature drop. I guess it is their luck you caught it in time and quickly took the necessary steps to get the temperatures up. This is what I call dedication towards this hobby and never loosing hope. Those are beautiful looking Discus.

I wouldn't worry too much. But you will need to deworm them in a few days as the cold has effectived the immune system. A dip in warm salt bath for 3 mins will do the trick. As I've done this mistake in past so speaking from experience. Thanks

Have you considered an inline tankless water heater plumbed in to your drip system?

I hope the fish are ok. I hope you realize that since you are wearing that shirt you have to come up with 10 excuses as to why it is not your fault.

I wouldn't trust anything adding water to an aquarium unless it came from a water tank of roughly the same temp. If it's attached to the cold water supply, as you see, if it malfunctions you're into cold OD territory.
Hopefully the discus get over this. I suppose chilling them isn't as bad as boiling them.
Aquarium Adventures
Aquarium Adventures - 5 years ago
To be fair it's been pretty foolproof since I set it up - the malfunction was me!

+Discus Keeper aye i no one of me m8s does it when he gets new ins for his main set up he does a 50% water change when adding them but when hes had the odd poorly one n hes found it on his side he emptys 50% just to help it out abit. I mean dont get me wrong hes had his fatalities but hes saved alot too. Ps thats who told me to put the orange skin in
Discus Keeper
Discus Keeper - 5 years ago
gupter the guppy it’s water pressure pabs , lowers the stress on the fish most importers do the same half empty the tank

Well, i've been running my whole fishroom with them for 3 years and this is the first time I've had an issue, and have visited dozens of places using the same design. But I'm sure you know better.
