hey paul. tank looks great. i subbed you back. your discus plans sound good. i have a corner overflow, and am adding an fx6 for secondary filtration. a weir based overflow only skims with surface. and the cichlids i keep produce a lot of waste. it tends to just swirl around my water column.ive never seen anyone apply what your attempting with the air stone and strainer. hope it works out bro. but if you have a canister hang onto it. you may need it for mechanical filtration as i do..

Looks like it should work great. I just did a DIY sump and large overflow for my 125 gallon African Cichlid tank with a 800 GPH pump, probably doing a real 550 -600 GPH because of height of tank.
