What kind of substrate do you use for the plants? Is it safe to use organic dirt in the pots? or will it affect the Discus?

Potting these plants is a good idea because you can remove them and soak the plant roots in a bucket with tap water and liquid fertilizer. The advantage is that you don't actually add the liquid fertilizer to your aquarium's water column, which could result in
an algae bloom.

i change 50-70% water once a week or two and prune the plants otherwise they grow too big and press the fish against the glass

@algolake Thanks for the comment. I have T5 HO (108W) as the lighting source. It has a 6700K and a "ColorMax" pink/purple-ish tube. I think it's too strong because there's some algae growing on the tip of the leaves near the water surface. I wish there's a 75 W version. I am considering covering the glass a bit to reduce the light intensity in the tank.
