Sam13431 just remeber slow and steady when changing chemistry in a ecosystem. Sudden shocks are deadly to the fish.

If you are not wanting to be reliant on IAL, you could look at plenty of wood and collecting oak leaves from local parks (might be a bit late for that now) once you have them dry them out and add them as required. If you collect extra wood, keep it in a container outside, as it leaches tannin, you can use that water for water changes. With collected leaves or purchased IAL you can boil it and make a tea solution up to use after water changes as well. You can also make up a tea formula with peat (which we sell).And lastly, we sell a water conditioner on our website made by Sera which has a blackwater additive to it as well (we use it in our blackwater display) we also stock IAL as well. www.thefishroom.co.nz
