75s on top 29s on bottom for both, make gaps even between each tank for the 29s IMO to avoid it looking weird. You'd skin the top first then the bottom separately, put a piece of moulding between the two to cover the gap.

I would fix the gaps before moving on to stocking and setting the tanks up. You're going to regret having the necessary gaps there once you fill everything up, and it will be a distraction from the tanks. Just go ahead and do it!

This was like a Daily Dose! Loved it! More of these please. I would go all 75's. Plecos and livebearers. Rainbows and cories. Shellies and cyps. Plus, if you decide you want to change your mind later, it would be slightly easier to go from large to small verses other way around.

I like the combo idea but I would move the 75 over and tuck in a custom sized tank next to the 75 for a nice spot for a betta or even a small hospital tank/ time out tank for a overly aggressive fish. It will fill the spot without wasting useful space in the fish room!

Hey guys! Another amazing video with awesome editing. I can't wait for my shirt to get here that you said you'd send. I'm so super excited, I sent off the email a few weeks ago. I enjoy every video you guys put out and I hope someday soon to visit the store location! I love this day in the life of Aquarium Co-op and it's so cool to see behind the scenes. On my way over to subscribe to C.O. My dream is to have a real fish room and eventually when my health is good, work for a fish store or start my own maintenance business. You inspire me so much, and your informative videos and streams have taught me more than I could ever hope for. My personal opinion would be 75s on bottom and 29s on top. Or one section all 75s and another all 29s so that everything is even and easier to build both stands, storage and facades/front covers. Keep up the amazing work and I look forward to your next video! Lots of love, guys!

I CANNOT get over Jimmy's editing.
Literally the best editing on YouTube, in my opinion, and I watch everything from pro LeagueofLegends gameplay montages, to original skits designed with editing in mind. All of the small details you put in make the large edits so much more amazing than they could be. Like the music that you start out with softly for a long time, slowly becoming louder, until finally the large (and amazing) edit that started @7:23. Jimmy, you are so talented. Thank you for sharing your talent with us. It truly does add a lot to this channel, and it wouldn't be the same without you.
Cory, thanks for sharing so much of your life with us, it's fun and educational, and beautiful, too.

Well since you asked, I would stop and rethink just a bit. In my experience 29's are not a good size tank for a fishroom, they have a nice width and height but only 12 inches depth front to back. So to me you would be give away a lot of aquarium real estate. What about re-thinking this space, go with 3 or 4 (if they fit) 40 or 50 gallon breeders across and then a couple 75's or 125's or even all breeders if you could fit 4 across in the space then you could have 8 tanks. I've always found 29's just not to be the tank of choice. I am kind of with you on the different aliments top to bottom, it will probably catch your eye every time and be one of those thorns that bugs you every time you look at it. If you are stuck on the tank sizes because you already have them how about going the 29's on one size and the 75's on the other that would take away the alignment issue. That's my 2 cents worth.
Andrea Shelton
Andrea Shelton - 6 years ago
75 combos on the bottom is my vote. Reasoning is the bottom rack always gets rushed through in a taping. Let’s face it, is sucks stooping over to film them. Guppies a plenty on the top. Maybe custom build small plant tanks between the 75’s.

One rack of 75's then one rack of 4 29's. So it doesn't look weird. You could use one rack for guppy breeding and creating strains in the 29's then mix pleco and guppies in the two 75's.

How about...the 29's on the right side rack, two up two down, the 75's on the left rack, one up and one down. Push the 75's to the center supports and just the 29's so all are evenly spaced. Now use the end on the far left as a deep pocket/shadow box for displaying artwork.

I love the video guys. I dont know if it makes a difference but i think that having four 75 gallon tanks would be the way to go that way you can have 4 pleco colonies and four guppy strands going. The two would get along great and there would be something intereating to see in both tanks.

I liked the debate between 75 and 30's. Gaps cease to be an issue if you do 75's left or right and 30's on the other side. Top and bottom 75 on one side, same for the 30 but on the other side. Doesn't address mixing fish. I would've thought mixing fish means 4x75, but if you're putting them in a smaller tank, I guess that works too.

Depends on the plans for the rest of the room. If you will already have smaller tanks around to let you hold a variety or do some line breeding, then all 75s, otherwise 29s cause the gap would bother me. In any case I would not do a mixed Bay. The lack of symmetry would really get to me. The thickness of the trim pieces for the 75s may not work to my liking either so I would consider some cabinet space or display shelves. Tank*shelf*support*shelf*tank, or shelf*tank*support with trim to match shelf width*tank*shelf. So shelf 1/3 of gap space, etc. For symmetry

Awesome progress! When I watch a fish room being built I want to do one very badly. I would go 75s on bottom n on the sides what about do like a cool designs cut out of metal? Like an outline of a pleco n u can put a small light behind it or ur logo

2x 75s and 4x 30s

that way you have all the sizes and the smaller tanks on top, since they will be easier to clean if they are on top and being more youll have to do more cleaning

I think the combo would be best. 75's on the bottom & the 29's on top. Personally, I'd notice more details on the tanks at eye level than the lower ones. Thanks for the updates & keep up the great work!

Personally I would do the 75s on the bottom and the combo. The extra 15 gallons of water isn't much but I would sleep better at night knowing it's 3 feet closer to the ground even if the weight difference from hight isn't significant

My opinion, all 75’s. This fish room/studio is going to be AMAZING, like this video..

Are all the new racks going to be the background whilst live streaming for real fish talk, etc? If so, as a viewer, id like to see the most amount of sq. ft. of aquarium as possible. So id go with the 29s up top. As far as trimming/skinning it out, itll look just fine as long as you make your face frame from one solid piece of plywood when transitioning from the 29s to the 75. Itll have a cleaner look with no joint. Ive been remodeling houses and doing general construction since I was 16. Im now 31 and still at it. Hope my opinion helps. Btw, great job SWhiskey! Yall have a great Friday!

Thanks for including us in your decisions. it is difficult to say for sure, because I'm OCD when it comes to balance and empty gaps etc. I feel the tank you want to watch the most should be on top and the extra space can be filled with spacers or removable panels. for cosmetics. I like the livebearer /pleco combination in the 75, Best wishes and peace with your decisioins.

P0HTAT0
P0HTAT0 - 6 years ago
I'd do the 75's on the bottom and the way you hide the odd alignment is even spacing. One simple option would also be to push the 75's to the far sides and fill the now large gaps with lit cubby's for displaying fish art stuff that also would fit in with your finished cabinet look you are going for. You may also get away with a pair of 20 tall tanks in the gaps front to back with some tall plants and shrimp more like accent display tanks rather than main interest tanks.

This would look like a row of 4-29's on top than on the bottom 20-75-75-20 if you have the patience for it you can get custom 20's that are 21"t 18"w 12"d. That way they would fit nicely next to a 75 and be the same height.

I have to questions for you Cory. First, what are you doing with the tanks you don't want? I'll take them if you want to get rid of them. Second and this isn't to question your build as I'm intrigued as to the build, but is that framework strong enough to hold a 75 gallon tank?
Jimmy S
Jimmy S - 6 years ago
I don't see the point of building these elaborate stands and then wasting space. Couldn't you put together a combination of tanks so that you are using all the available space and maximizing the amount of water? Perhaps a 29 gallon sideways next to the 75 gallon? Or some other combination of tanks?

Maybe 75 galloon on the btm so the gap that you will fill with a wood will be on the btm since the two tanks looks bigger so its better go to the top in eye level even though i like the big tank in eye level, its not really bad if its on the btm since its a big tank its easier to see even its down below than two smaller tanks on the btm but its just me, but its always up to you wich do you prefer since you will be the one looking at them :)

I live in Southern California and I see some of those tank setups and get nervous since I live in earthquake country. I would enjoy seeing a video on earthquake bracing aquarium tanks...
heatherwanderer777
heatherwanderer777 - 6 years ago
Without proper bracing though, even a minor earthquake can make you lose half of your water and possibly a lot of fish. Bracing can minimize. Might be interesting for him to do a pro/con on earthquake bracing. We just had a 4 here in Oregon, not that usual for us, made me think about the tanks for sure
JC's Tanks
JC's Tanks - 6 years ago
An earthquake big enough to knock down the tanks is going to be big enough to do major damage to the whole building. You'll be starting all over anyhow. May as well make it fun now rather than brace for that once-in-a-lifetime chance of the big one.
