Nice video, I got some of the Glosso. Just wondering if I will be having a success to get a carpet with this set up.
70 gallon tank
Substrate
Miracle grow potting mix capped with Fluorite and normal gravel
Lighting
1 x T5 Dual HO 2 x 54 W
1 x T5 Dual NO 2 x 28 W
Dual Bottle DIY CO2 approximately 2 bps

Please advise what do you think if I will be able to grow the carpet in this tank.

do you have a problem using sand with dirt? a lot of videos on here talk about a gas bomb effect because sand don't allow gas exchange to happen... However I find with plants like glosso you need sand instead of gravel. Im about to redo my 45 and I want dirt and sand but im scared of this" gas thing"

If you use slightly larger size sand, then the bacteria in the sand can breath…
And, if you get a bubble of toxic gas beginning to build up, just use a chop stick and poke it, then it will release it before it turns toxic. But that takes months to build up and you will see the bubble bulge in the sand… so it's not that big of a deal. I am on a system where I use 6" - 7" of sand to build up a ton of bacteria and it works Awesome. Zero Ammonia, Zero Nitrites… It is very healthy for the fist… Again, use slightly bigger course sand.

Your Glosso is really growing bad, it should cover the bottom and not going straight up like yours.

Hey Steve, why have a bubbler, won't that affect the total dissolved co2? Amano and other aquascapers don't use it since plants offer o2. Maybe set a timer to go on during the evening

10 gallons per discus, should start with a 55 for fully grown discus minimum, im new to discus keeping but been researching for months i have 14 discus now. i grow them out in smaller tanks no problem , bare bottom, once grown to a really good size bigger tank 55 MINimum seriously they are dirty fish and need a big volume of water check out simplydiscus

Sweet! I did a search on a local hardware store's site and they have a 50lb bag of "silica pool sand" for around $13. Just wanted to make sure it was the same stuff.

question. why use an air stone for the sponge filter if you're injecting CO2. the air stone is counter intuitive. u could use a simple low gph powerhead instead. =)

Great video, Dustin and Steve, I have glosso in my high tech tank a real thick carpet of it check it out, I use everything you do but I also dose dry firts it loves all the potassium firts I dose , maybe that would help thicken your carpet, if you like to know exactly what I dose please hit me up, great tank and info vid, always a pleasure towatch :)
