You can still vacuum the sand without doing water changes. Just put the end of the hose in a filtersock in your sump and you can suck up all the dirt and clean out the filter sock afterwards.

+Krishna Karkera It's a sand sifting starfish. Just regular reef parameters. They are cool things to watch and a lot faster than you would expect.

Tank looks great Michael. I have one question....to do the bubble method...what are you using to make the bubbles? I use the Vaccum method with my water changes every week, and I use my power heads to blow the detridus off the rocks and such. My sand bed is about one inch in most spots. Is that too thick? so.....that would be two questions hahahaha

Do you also run the bubbles every night? If so for how long? I am in the long process of setting up my first marine tank at the moment. I want a sand bed, I want it deep enough for a Sand Sifting Starfish and a couple Nassarius Snails, so I assume about an inch deep ish..

I saw your star, was just worried about the snails too. From what I’ve looked at online if I go for about half an inch I should also be ok for a pistol shrimp and goby too. I love watching the two of them together

+TheMartynneil Yes I run them 9pm until 6am. My sand bed has 2 sand sifting stars and multiple Nassarius snails and it's probably less than half inch deep.

What dosing product would you recommand, I'm a beginner currently cycling my tank, it's 45gallon all in one system. Mainly softies and lps and i have hydra 26hd led ~12" from water line.
