Oh . I forgot to add that I'm in BG, KY. Not far from you guys. Also someone asked about rocks and wood. I have rocks and wood from barren river lake in my tank. I boiled the rocks and I soaked the wood in plain water. But recently I've discovered you can drop some acid on a rock and if it bubbles then the rock probably has high pH like limestone.

Way off topic but I used to have discus in the same tank with one African cichlid , keyhole cichlids, Bolivian rams, and others that I can't remember. People kept telling me it wouldn't work. Well, the discus were never bothered and the did fine in my 77 degree hard water. I fed them bloodworms and brine shrimp. Anyway love this tank! Dustin, you have inspired me to redo my 55 gal that's 12 years old and over run with algae. Thanks.

Excited to see how this one comes together, per usual the hardscape seems to be too much by itself but I am sure it will all come together in the end. I have been using CO2 for years and it worked well with Discus, keeps the PH low but you have to watch the swings. Keep up the good work and keep the videos coming!

The trick is to find materials that won't pollute your tank. Search google for this topic and you will find a bunch of posts about types of rocks to target and avoid...long story short don't use anything that dissolves over time.

Steve's 72 bow front hardscape looks great...much better than my 49ers did on Sunday. (But I knew the Niners were going to lose because the Ravens were insanely good this season.) Can't wait to see this tank finished!

Looks nicr the hardscape.. would cut the right side to smaller rocks.. so you have a main stone and "mother" stone.. for the aquascape.. i like the hair but also devils tongue.. the small specie.. lol dno how to spell that.:p hope to see the update soon what u made of it..:)

A note to Steve: I have an FX5 on my 125 and the current was so intense my discus wouldn't go anywhere near it. I might recommend flipping the outflow to face the glass. This would diffuse some of the flow.

the hardscape almost looks complete. maybe just add more sand towards the back to make more of a slope, which will also prop the rotalas i see in the back higher so they can be seen & maybe also get more light. i would try to chip/hammer the two bigger rocks on the right side into smaller rocks, as well. just so you get more variety of sizes in rocks. glossos & hairgrass r great but demanding, as u prob know. just place them well. they don't look great growing on top of each other, i think.

Glosso is a reletively easy plant to take care of, you need really high light. They like co2, but i run only diy. Cant wait to see the tank!

Once he plants glosso if it keeps growing tall he needs to continually cut it so the plant learns to carpet, otherwise it will keep growing upwards.. If you don't dose enough co2, or have co2 tank then it won't grow properly. Also pretty decent lights should be used as well.. and ferts.. i have 2 Giesemann bulbs. It would not carpet for me til i got the Giesemann bulbs, and my tank was already on co2. I also switched to Tom barr's Estimative Index dosing and that could of made it carpet

My 5 large goldfish have lived in a trash can like that on the patio for 5 years now. They are doing just fine. They come to the surface to be fed, drop to the coolest water at the bottom when it is hot. It has a filter, but during the summer when it is hot and I am feeding a lot, I just put the hose into the bottom opf the trash can , on low flow and let it overflow for 30 minutes. It works out great.

glosso is amazing! my favorite carpet. got it dry starting in my 36 bow currently. make sure you got good lights for horizontal carpeting growth. Most importantly you have to train it to grow horizontally. cut each node individually and plant it. if you start to notice vertical growth quickly trim and replant. you might get lucky and get it from a person who already has it trained to grow horizontally but the trick is to plant single nodes. it's tedious but worth it
