Huge New Plants and new tankmates in my 145 Gallon Tank. and some more good news on the Discus Tank

I got some Huge plants from my brother. And I moved some fish in with the goldfish as well. And I am also giving away a Huge plant. If someone close to me wants to come and pick it up.

Although you stated your goldfish are not high quality, I must say you lucked out because all your goldfish are super attractive!

I checked out the video, and I use seachem Matrix media but also have some of Fluval media in there as well do you use carbon should I not use carbon
Zacks Tanks Crazy Aquarium Guy
Zacks Tanks Crazy Aquarium Guy - 6 years ago
I only use carbon after I medicated an aquarium.

yeah I really don't want to add chemicals to the fishes tanks I'd like to keep them as natural as I can to keep the fish help healthy

thank you zach, I really do appreciate all your advice. it probably explains the fact that if I mess around my filter cleaning too much I get ammonia like at .25 when my tank has been established for 3 years not often do I get ammonia but I have to be very careful and when I do to the filters like I said I have to fx6 on this tank I'll do one filter one month and then the next the other I also add seachem stability to my water change every time I change water it seems to help with adding beneficial bacteria to the tank I haven't had any problems lately. how many gallons of water out of a 125 gallon tank would be and should I still aerate the water before adding it or should I just add it out of my tap water cuz the pH is really low have that 6.0

Glad I could help! :-) Keep doing what you are doing. But look at this video how I fill my Fx6. I add 3-4 pounds of ceramic rings to all my Fx6 cannisters. And if you clean one of them wait at least 3 months before you clean the other one.

I just tested my fish tanks water just now cause I did a wayer change 2 days ago, my pH was 8.0 gh 303.3 and kh 161.1, so the number do drop after some time I keep a record of my readings for the gh and kh each month.

I think my water may be high in iron, I only think that because my tubs that I keep my water in are brown all around the sides of them, it's like a residue that doesn't want to come off some of a comes off but then it's stains it I do use carbon and poly filter I just started using the poly filter a month ago and I changed it twice already like every 2 weeks but it's very expensive I also changed my carbon every 3 weeks I have to fx6 is on this tank I only put 3 packs of the Fluval carbon in the bottom of the fx6 the carbon comes with three in a pack

I tested my tap waters gh and kh and ph, the pH is 6.0 ,, kh is 143.2 and the gh is 322.2
Zacks Tanks Crazy Aquarium Guy
Zacks Tanks Crazy Aquarium Guy - 6 years ago
When your tap water is getting air and ammonia into it, the ph gets raised because you have so hard water. So there is nothing you can do wittout adding chemicals.
I would either do smaller water changes but more often instead. If that does not work you could add a clay based substrate.
But I would not fight my water, I would do 25% water change every other day instead.
In my experience most fish get used to how you keep them, and it is best not to change things that is working.
I tried my best to help you. It is a very unusual problem you have. Never heard of it before ever.

yes some with plants tied to them, but I haven't had them that long, my tank test still comes out the same as always

Actually I realised that it is almost 5 am my time. And I have not gone to bed yet. I have an important meeting, so I have to go to bed now. But check your KH and GH from the tap, and I will get back to you! :-)
Zacks Tanks Crazy Aquarium Guy
Zacks Tanks Crazy Aquarium Guy - 6 years ago
I think I have the answer if you test your tap water for GH and KH. :-) Do it now!
Lisa Crowley

my tap waters pH is 6.0 I have never tested the taps waters gh or kh , I only have tested what's 8n the fish tanks
Zacks Tanks Crazy Aquarium Guy
Zacks Tanks Crazy Aquarium Guy - 6 years ago
It has to be something in your aquariums that reacts with your tap water and raises the ph. It is so hard to answer when I dont have more information.

I use prime for my chlorinator

I use the apl test kits , to test the tanks , my pH has always been 8.0 even before when I had bear bottom tanks, my gh is 185.9 and the kh is 136.9 both done with the apl test kits , and I replace them with new test kits every 6 months or so , the substrate that's in my tank is aquatic substrate, for freshwater but it's only been in there for about a month or so, I never had any substrate before , my test with the pH hasn't changed any,
Zacks Tanks Crazy Aquarium Guy
Zacks Tanks Crazy Aquarium Guy - 6 years ago
Do you use water conditioner? Because chlorin gets away if the water is sitting in tubs, but not chloramine.
Lisa Crowley
Lisa Crowley - 6 years ago
hello zack, I was wondering if you could give me some advice , I have a 125 gallon goldfish tank the 6 foot long one , with 7 orandas ,sand as my substrate , and live plants . I need some advice on the ph, I only been keeping goldfish for the past 3 years , all is going good and my fish have been healthy, but my tap water here where I live the ph out of the tap is 6.0 and the ph in my tanks are 8.0, now what I do for my ph to match my tank for my water changes, I have a 35 gallon rubber maid tub and a 20 gallon tub , and I let the airate for 24 to 72 hours so that the ph matches my tanks water before adding it to my tank, I don't know any other way to go about doing this , I really don't want to add any chemicals to the water , I'd like to keep it as natural for them as I can with out messing with the ph, my water here is very hard and the ph does stay stable , so I don't have any problems with that , gh and kh have been also good, but I am at a loss , I wanted to get another large tank but I really don't have the room in my house to keep adding water tubs around all over , I would love to just add the water to the tank with the hose from the sink, them I wouldn't need to have the tubs of water sitting around and then I could get a 150 gallon that I wanted , if not no big deal tho, I want to do what's best for the fish first, any advice would be great , thanks so much

I am going to try and help you here, but first some questions.
1. How do you meassure your water ph?
2. What kind of sand is your substrate?
3. It is really rare to have high Gh and at the same time have low Ph. How can you be so sure of those numbers?

Really cool with a plant over the aquarium, I guess Pothos its called? Can I buy one from lets say Plantagen and put the root in the aquarium that easily? :D
Zacks Tanks Crazy Aquarium Guy

Yes! But the only way to bee totally sure, is to keep a light on it for at least 8 hour a day. Thats why I did it. But start with a cheap 30 dollar Led light from ebay.

Interesting mix, goldfish and rainbows. And those are some of the best java ferns I've seen! I'm glad to hear the discus are improving: if they're eating, they're probably getting better.
