Rachel do you ever worry about your large Gars breaking your tanks? I remember Joey did a video several years ago where he rescued an Alligator Gar from a local hobbyist but it broke through his glass tank in the middle of the night. IIRC it also killed some of his Arowana he had at the time.

We have just come across them... never seen them before.. and have purchased ..obviously... I don't find they seem to be normal ?!.. all info I have found says heavily planted tank.. but mine seem to get stressed if too planted and stop eating... have you managed to breed? Would love a species spotlight..... they are gorgeous... their lamp eye and the male fins are so sexy.. but even the females really show some lovely colour. Love your channel. Xxx

Huh. Seems like you have gotten cold all of sudden while here in northern Europe we have had a really warm winter again. Temperatures are constantly hovering around zero celsius which makes it really miserable because it means it's raining/sleeting pretty much nonstop which along with perpetual darkness makes it just depressing.

About ten years ago we still had real winters with constant below zero temperatures for winter, and 20-30 years ago we had regularly temperatures between -15 to -30 celsius for entire winter.

I've lived thru that Multi catch drama. I would recommend using small PVC elbows with removable endcaps in breeding setups instead of real shells, catching them is a breeze then. In the end I sold mine in the shells to locals, they would come and pick them up and go home with a bucket of shells and just had to trust me there were fish in there.

My nitrates are high and water is acidic,I did a water change but it's not budging .I use tetra strips .

It depends on your tap water but usually, the water conditioner is good enough but definitely try the distilled

Yes I use a water conditioner and have a filter, I'm using tap water but I'm going to try distilled water an see what happens on the next water change
