Hey IFG! Love your videos. If you can I'd say go 400 gallons. I've always liked tall tanks but do whatever makes you happy. I like the live videos but maybe you can do a compilation at the end of the build. Good luck on your move. Thanks for all the information.

As a fellow youtuber with a big tank I say go as big as you can that way there aren’t any regrets down the road. Mine is 400 gallons and even at that, I still wish it was bigger! (That’s what she said) lol jk jk. Either way, congrats on the move and the new monster tank. Ha, as big as you can practically go! Any less than 500g and you will always be thinking what if. Will be very interesting to see how you tackle the large aquarium problems. I recently built a 2,400L just over 600g plywood tank and these were mine, weight, had to reinforce floor with steels, depth at 39 inches deep it looks fantastic, but lighting and access are a problem, water changes, l can't do changes over 5% without running low on my hot water supply, am looking at ways to fully complete the nitrogen cycle, ie nitrate to nitrogen gas. I have a 75g sump with 2 media towers. Each tower has 1 gallon of bio-balls and the same volume of pot scrubbies and 4 packs of ceramic rings. That affords me a large volume of beneficial bacteria. I have a 1800 gph return pump which after headloss makes for enough time that the bacteria works.. My ammonia and nitrites are 0ppm an nitrate is at or below 5ppm.. I also have 2 FX Canister filters for general water cleanliness and turnover.. Fortunately my water temp outa pipe is 75ish so doesnt take much heating, even though I do 175gallons weekly water changes. Thanks for message and stay in touch.. I sub'd to you.

Free Swimmer Hi, always good to hear from a fellow tank builder! I got most of my information from the king of DIY although l did have to use stronger bracing, if l did it again l think l would go longer & a bit shallower, l just went with the 8' x 4' plywood sheet sizes! I use a large sump located at the side of the tank with a large trickle tower filter, this oxygenates the water well & have never had a problem with ammonia or nitrite. The sump at the side also allows easy access, unlike the bottom of the tank. My water comes from a spring & living in the north of UK is very cold so l use a lot of hot water to bring it up to 78f. I keep mainly Frontosa although some Malawi haps have got in there somehow!! Do you control your nitrates by WCs only? I struggle to keep mine below 40ppm & have to do lots of small WCs, l don't think my bio load is too high, l can't really set up a trickle WC system as l have soft water, unless l put it through a reactor, so many questions! Hope you are enjoying your tank, am guessing you keep African cichlids too? Paul

I have a 540 gallon plywood tank running for about 7 months now. I have no problems doing between 20-30 % water changes weekly. I knew height would be an issue with both glass thickness, and reaching to tank floor, so I went 12 1/2 feet wide and water depth is 25".. I will check out your set up, and drop by and leave me a comment back..

I would go with something manageable like a 365 or 425. I have found for me that the length of the aquarium is not as much of an issue as long as you ca n get it in the house. For me, it has been the height of it, so I can work on it or scape it. I already know I will be getting one of those same aquariums with the sump, and the dimensions I have in my plan are 96” x 28” x 28.” I go with the depth on this one, so I could install a kick ass background, and a little shorter of height so I can work on it easier but still give the haps the height and length they need to swim.

9 ft x 2"6 x 2"6 = 455 gal tank. Nice and long so harassed fish can get away, not too high and deep so easy for maintenance and wont intrude too much into your room. I don't know about a live stream cause I don't have much time for that, maybe live and timelapse for later? I'm so happy for your opportunity cause you really deserve it and a bit jealous because I can't start my fish room till 2019.

It's gonna be over 300 gallon for sure.i would recommend putting some length on tank .8 ft to 10 ft since you keep bigger haps.end of the it's you can afford and the space at your place.

Congrats on the new tank!! My only suggestion is getting a 36 inch tall stand. That's what I have for my 600 and it made installing plumbing and working on the sump so much easier. You can see it on my channel if you like. Good luck and can't wait to see it!!
