It's probably raising the pH with Citric acid. The higher pH slows or killes the bacterial infections. Test the water pH before and after to see if there is a change.

Vinicius agreed. But if you listen thats why i say i dont leave it in for too long, as not to break the peel down into water column. Also if your doing proper discus water changes the build up should not occur.

I would just be very carefull, since our setups contain much smaller quantities of water than the biggest river in the world lol.

Vinicius I have seen 0 ill effects. Discus do come from very soft/acidic water to begin with. It would behoove us to remember that fruits fall from trees all the time in the Amazon.

Cem Celikel i honestly do not see why you couldnt. My advice would be to just observe closely & be prepared to do a water change if anything gets out of comfort zone in the tank.

Thanks for sharing IFG! --- Great video Ryan Anderson this is very interesting to me but whether there is a boatload of scientific research done on this or not, if it seems to help heal even faster based on yours and others experience then it has merit. This is similar to all the tribal or old school medicines so to speak even to this day. A career in the military medical field taught me that science doesn't even remotely know everything and many of those thought to be primitive medicinal recipes that have been used for millennia from the jungle to the desert once researched thoroughly it is often found that some of the ingredients contain specific chemical compounds that do target symptoms or ailments in the body be it human or animal so much so that a very significant amount of our modern medicine is actually rooted in these old recipes because they were found to be beneficial to some degree then broken down into what is the active ingredient(s) that does the work then they are constructed in a lab to be refined and intensified in strength to come in that little pill, powder, liquid or ointment

Hey Ryno, how about a video about the construction of your tank racks??? I'm building a stand and of all the research I've done, never seen that method used. It looks like all that is supporting the weight are those blocks underneath the tank at the ends??

fruit is something that fish from the amazon find in their environment...It is my opinion that fish that get HITH do so because they do not get enough vitamin C...and Vit C supports the immune system..it is amazonian fish that we see most often with HITH... I feed my oscar and severums fruit (mango, grapes or nectarine), several times a week....so i think yes...the peel would benefit the fish.

Really interesting. Nature has many antimicrobial agents that inhibit bacteria/fungus growth. I usually go to salt and Bay leaves before medications. Add Orange peel to the list.

LOL. Yep, Bay leaves have been used for medicinal purposes for thousands of years and they're cheap in every supermarket spices aisle. I like the orange peel idea too.
