Very nice. Still strange to me that they didn't kept the name aequifasciatus for the green discus, the name tarzoo was used(unofficially) earlier, but very arkward. The other members of the family kept their name without the aequifasciatus in between though, to make them seperate species.

Thanks Willy. I don't think everyone recognises the name tarzoo as being valid, some authorities will still use aequifasciatus. Things change so many times.

Hi DMAN the company that makes them is called Back to Nature. I don't think they sell them direct but there are distributors in various countries around the world.If you do a search on 'backtonature' all one word you will find them. Then just look on the dirstributors page. I actually got mine from a local fish shop, who in turn must have got it from the British distributor.

But there are still some positives for the individual fish. They will get a lot more food than they would in the wild, they will live longer (if well kept) as they will be free from predators. I think the fish come to realise they are in a relatively safe environment in the aquarium, which is never the case in the wild. So they may in some ways feel less stress.

As they are sustainably fished the fishermen are only allowed to catch a certain number each year. This means that the wild population is never wiped out, through over fishing. From the individual fish that is caught and taken from a nice big river to a small glass box, it is in many ways a very unpleasant experience. No matter how well we look after them we cannot recreate nature in an aquarium so in that sense for the individual fish it is not good.

Iara I think there are good points and bad points about taking wild fish from their natural environment. I will have to use several reply boxes to get down everything I would like to point out. As these are sourced through sustainable fishing, there is an argument that in buying the fish we are helping add value to the environment for the local fisher men, who will then have a vested interest in looking after that environment, so that they are able to maintain an income from it.

Hi Dave How did you manage to get the back to nature background mate? I can't find any UK suppliers and I really want some rock modules from them. Any advise would be much appreciated. Stunning tank and fish as always mate.

Thanks. I do a 500ltr water change with HMA twice a week. I've also started syphoning the fish faeces off the sand every other day. This takes out about 25 litres. It is filtered by 2 FX5s and I replace the filter floss and clean the top layer of sponge every 2 weeks. I also completely clean all other sponges and rinse the hard media in tank water once a month. I alternate it so I completely clean 1 filter and then the other 2 weeks later. I clean the quartz sleeve on the UV every 6 months.

No it is not real, it is a 3D background by Back to Nature.

Thanks for the compliment. The background is a 3D one. It is an Amazonas model made by a Swedish firm called Back to Nature. I really like the wild look, I hope your tank turns out well for you. Good luck.

Stunning. What is the background you are using I presume its a 3D one. I am just about to set up a further Discus tank and going for the wild look, looking at the Aqua Essentials rock & root ones - is this one of theirs; Amazon by any chance.
