No good way to lower nitrates except for lots of water changes and/or lots of plants! Steve, do you ever do further testing to supplement those strips? I'd be curious to see a bit more accurate nitrate number at the end of a week in that tank of yours?

+Rich's Fishes Gonna add to this too, Removing dead plant matter too, adding essential plant minerals. Healthy plants grow more and propagate more. Noticed back when I did tetras when I was a beginning I had 80~ nitrates added some plants and a mirror to reflect the sun into the tank dropped that to 5~ nitrates in a few weeks without a water change. Had to trim the plants and add tap water to get minerals for the plants back in.

I change 50% or more every day. Very low nitrates in my tank. I would be interested in that algae gone product Always have algae on my plants in my discus tank but I'm afraid to add any chemicals to the water

Thanks for the video and shout out. Ro unit is running right now as I type and ready to do a 3 day water change 40-50 %. Added all Discus in my tank and the guy in the bottom of the totem pole is still hiding while the two new Discus including a 1.5 incher are all hanging out with the group already. Go figure. I guess they all have their own personalities.

Yes, that's what I've read. New Discus get a one time 3 day treatment of Fish Bendazole. I used it and I have noticed possible dead worm like substances in my tank after cleaning with my siphon vacuum. Not sure though, they can always be turds. I pick this up from Conway Stevens on here. Have you seen his stuff?

+Scuba Steve Yes, they do eat from my hand. Their pretty hyper during feeding time. I usually wiggle some beef heart in the area of the runt in which he gladly pecks at. Nice backround. Gonna definitely add depth. You ever use de wormer?

I'll bet most of my tanks produce more than 10ppm Nitrates per DAY, let alone week. Lol
I keep my tanks really well stocked and feed way too much though.
I was talking to a friend (professional) about Discuss and Nitrates the other day. I'll shoot some video about them soon. (been busy outside and with my Native Tank, summer project.)
