Just removed gravel and replaced with 50#'s of Pool Filter Sand using this technique without prewashing and it works great no cloudy water at all, it took seven 2 liter bottles and less than an hour to do in my 45 gal tank.

This is a brilliant idea. I've just switched back to sand with my turtle tank and I just rinsed the sand out in a bucket until the water was clear before adding it to the tank.

Great idea, going to use this when I do my sand change this weekend. I'm swapping my regular dark sand for coral sand in my african cichlid tank and I have a question, my pH is quite low and I know coral sand will raise it but will it raise it slowly or will it spike too quickly?

The Sound of Legends . I would buy a small bottle of PH level powder. They have it in liquid form, but for me the powder of it seems to work faster. it will take sometime. Just in case that plan "A" doesn't work.

Hi Andy it does work and as long as you put the top on the upside down bottle before you turn it or just pull it straight out the tank. The yellow froth you are left with in the bottle is the same as you get in the top of a bucket when rinsing with a hose. If you have a spare tank or plastic storage box have a practice before hitting the main tank. Your tank water will still be clear.
