This is our corner 54 gallon planted discus aquarium. Apart from the five discus, you see tetras, plecos, SAEs, otos, rams, among a few others. The foreground plant on the left is dwarf hairgrass (growing a little messy at the moment!). Water changes are automatic (15 gallons of R/O water plus re-mineralization per day). The only maintenance is feeding (which can be done by an automatic feeder when necessary), filter maintenance every other month, and refilling the mineral/fertilizer reservoir every 2 weeks. In this video, the discus are pecking at the plecos' algae tabs.

Hi I have a 54 gallon corner also that I have given up on because of poor lighting. Can u tell me what lights your running. There perfect. Tank is awesome. Would love to start Discus tank if I had proper lights

Love the video! Someone else asked blow but you didn't answer. How are you doing the automatic water changes? Is there a system you can buy or did you have to build it from scratch?

Thanks! We've had the rams for a few years---they were wilds that we got when they were young.

Keep in mind that for Discus, changing lots of water is really the key. This tank has 15 gals. (~30%) changed every day on an automatic system. I think you want at least 50% per week as a baseline for water changes for Discus, even in a planted tank. That's why we automated our system---keeping this tank wouldn't really be possible otherwise. And "the more the better" is really true here, hence the 30% per day. Also, make sure you've done your reading, regarding ph, temp, etc. Good luck!

Hi! I don't remember the name of this color strain, actually. Some discus will definitely go after shrimp. This tank has red cherry shrimp in it (although they are often not visible), and they are far too fast for the discus to catch at this point. The Rams are the best shrimp hunters in this tank right now.
