I've been so busy lately I almost didnt get a chance for a fish room update! Cant neglect the aquariums! Sept 1, 2015 ******************************************************************** Subscribe here: https://goo.gl/4OO1ml ******************************************************************* Been busy busy lately and have not had much time to update the goings on in the fishroom! So here's an update. Lets see how the fish are doing, and talk about a tank brace thats about to break! Tank braces are one of those things that so easily go overlooked. They're such flimsy pieces of plastic right? I mean they break all the time if you just lean on them a little; so obviously they're not important right? WRONG!!!! Those pieces of plastic might seem flimsy if you lean on them but thats because they're not designed to be strong in that direction. They're not designed to hold the weight of something on top of it. They are designed to help keep the front and back pieces of the aquarium from spreading apart due to the tremendous force of the water pressure behind them. If you look closely at the tank trim and/or tank brace, you'll see that the trim itself is connected to the brace and is all one continuous piece. It wraps around the top of the glass locking it in place. Now if that brace in the middle breaks it will allow the front and back glass to spread a bit farther away from one another than if that brace was still in place. You can see the difference and it will be measurable. If you've got a tank with a broken brace measure across the top of the tank and note the distance between the front and back glass. Do this once with the tank full and again with the tank empty (or halfway empty at least). The results might shock you! Whats next you might ask? Wont the tank eventually break?! It certainly could....and might.....and probably will if you dont do something to stop it! ******************************************************************** Follow Rich's Fishes! The issue with your broken tank (supposedly), is an easy one.
Take a piece of glass, about 3 inches wide, length should be equal to the inside breadth of your tank. Using silicone and some pieces of support glass, stick it inside. Basically it will be hidden below the plastic which is breaking .....It should solve the issue. Your tank apparently does not have a support in the middle of it. It works wonders, you will be all set for a long time. A simple DIY should do the trick. Hope it helps ...Cheers TC
