Cannery Row is still a famous book, and most youth have read it at one point or another in school. John Steinbeck lived near Cannery Row on the Monterey peninsula during the Great Depression era. There is so much history in that place you can feel it emanating off every brick in the wall. (The posters everywhere of Mr. Steinbeck help a lot too.) There is also a very famous aquarium there that I had to pleasure of checking out with my mom, it is actually located on top of an old sardine cannery. The aquarium is unique in the sense that it actually pumps fresh ocean water through pumps straight from Monterey Bay. With over 1.8 million people in attendance every year, this video will show you why.
