'Through the Eyes of a Child' Aquascape by James Findley - The Making of

http://www.thegreenmachineonline.com aquascaping specialists. This archive footage shows the creation of this stunning aquarium. This aquascape by James Findley is entitled 'Through the Eyes of a Child' because the rocks used were all chosen by his youngest daughter, Ellen. It demonstrates the chaos of nature: the beauty of perfect imperfection and the unrivalled ability of the child to appreciate this. As we age, it is common to lose the ability to appreciate the chaos of nature in the same way: we begin to look for ordered, organised patterns and learn to create symmetrical, structured forms. James explains that nature is chaotic and imperfect so an organised, ordered aquascape will never truly reflect the perfect imperfection of nature. Therefore to achieve the best results, James believes that an aquascaper must once again learn to see through the eyes of a child. He planted this tank to demonstrate this and the individuality, originality and beauty of this aquascape are striking. Commissioned by Arcadia for the AQUA 2010 trade show.

I simply don't see random here. Go fins this in nature. You won't. It's beautiful, but beyond orderly.

I'm interested in knowing where the tank stand comes from? I'd be interested in one for my similar sized tank. Thanks.

Was it just me but when the hardscape was in; the right hand side looked to ordered and needed some rocks to break up the line from the depth... Glad that the plants took over that area; I didn't expect that.
Brings me to an important lesson; don't go to nature or it could detract from the tank's feel.

Not one of my tanks contains purchased hardscape. While it takes an extra bit of work do to the need to sterilize it can also save you a fortune

David Ingram Yea same here. Well it's just how I learned it from my grandpa and my mother, they never purchased stones and stuff either! It's actually not that hard to do.

A gravel filter provides a good subsitute.

as far as I know you don't really have to clean them.  The plants use the fish waste.  I guess if you're careful about feeding vacuuming isn't necessary.

How long does a tank stay like that? What is the life expectancy before it needs to be rebuilt...

While buying exotic stones yields exotic looking aquascapes, try collecting stone from the areas around you. You can hand select stones from the millions out there that will inspire your own artistic look. And they only cost your time, with the side benefit of exploring nature.
