do you turn your filter off while messing with the soil to avoid damage? I've heard people caution about filters sucking up too much substrate, but I personally am concerned with the water quality for the fish. which do you think is worse?

They can do just fine in a freshwater tank while they are juvenile, mine is no longer in that category, so im trying to get him to a more suitable environment :/

The two sides don't match each other as well ass they could. Those large stones is the key to the mismatch. You have some amazing looking wood on the left side and plants with smaller leaves that give it nice detail. You should try to find wood that compliment the left side and plants with smaller leaf structure such as pogostemon helferi,
Hydrocotyle tripartita and Cryptocoryne beckettii Petchii in the mid/foreground.

The rocks don’t match. This needed some samurai or dragon stone and some more root work in between those. Using so much java fern also makes it look repetitive.

+D Leal The java fern grow together in a "bunch" all connected to a cental structure which grows new rhizomes and leaves and will get larger and larger as time goes on

liking the rescape bro! :-) That was a lot of long flora in dat mug! Saw you have a planted plus 24/7 box leaning up in the back ground, have you found it good to use growing plants? I've got a couple of 48" ones and been thinking of expanding into planted tanks more.

Been running mine about four months now. Very happy with it, do have it on a timer though. On at eight am, off at nine pm. Do not like the overnight function of moonlight it has. To Damn bright. Really dig the remote, now that I've got used to it and the blinking. Look forward to your review. They is a dude on tapatalk that ran mad specs on it, check that out too, think it was fishlore.

+Aaron McGinty with a planted tank like this, because there is soil, the gavel vac cleaning is something you rarely need to do. Every once in a while I lightly touch up a few areas with a siphon but no need to do much of that in this scenario. Hope that helps!

Cole, I see what you're saying and agree, the good thing about using mostly java fern is that its easy to move around/change. No soil bound roots can be nice sometimes! Haha
