Hi Dan, I hope this finds you and yours well. I recently went to see my folks in Az and found some beautiful Jasper. (green, red, blue) I am wondering if a 35 pound rock is too heavy to put in my 125 gal? It will have about 3-4 inches of sand layer under it. It measures approx. 12"x10"x6" Do you think that's too heavy for the area it will occupy? My dad actually drove me back to Ohio so I could have this piece of Jasper (and a few others, lol) for my new aquarium. I just couldn't figure out a way to get the rocks and my clothes on the plane! LOL (yes, It would appear I am a tiny bit spoiled :0)~ Thanks!!!

I put rock in my tank last night I change the water in tank my gobe dragon like to move the small rock but he was not moveing rock the water is cold so I change the water and he started to move rock again

I tried cleaning my rocks in bleach water, just wanted everything clean so I also threw in my fish thinking it would be fun for them to get any parasites off and take a nice bubble bath. They swam around in the bleach water and in the morning they were nice an white, squeakey clean.
I put them in my tank but I should have added more bleach because a weird fungus attacked them while they were sleeping. They liked sleeping on the filter intake for some reason and never really moved. It was strange

No. I test using acetic acid (vinegar). As long as there is no reaction (foam or bubbles) then the rocks shouldn't affect pH. They may have trace minerals or metals, but I've never had any issues.
Also, the rocks around here are all pretty much the same composition, so I just kinda know what ones are safe in my tanks.

Dan, thanks great stuff. For all of your subscribers that are from the NY area I have a spot where I collect my rocks that I would like to share with you. At the tip of the North Fork is Orient Point. That beach is a gold mine of assorted rocks that I have been collecting over the past year or so. You may also like it. Good luck!

all the fish in African tank, including the rarely seen BGKF. I'm going to add several Congo Tetras. Maybe a Scholls of 12-15.
I also want to add a Polypterus.
the current tank ( 40b) will become a Center American cichlid tank with my T Bar being the chief specimen.
