Hey guys... is that christmas tree moss? also... how did the moss stay secured down the bottom on the sand? will it just stay there and grow in on the sand? Aswell as the java fern in the back... is attached to anything? Also, is that just regular old sand? PLEASE respond soon! thanks :)

It is christmas moss, which was attached to stainless steel mesh so they stay attached instead of floating. The substrate is just plain, inert sand.
